Stock Shield Sights Choices

I may pick up the Shield Version 1 for edc. S&W offers it with white 3-dot night sights, Tritium & Hi-viz. Any opinions? My eyes are not the best for viewing something at arms length.

I have all of the above on various pistols (and all but tritium on Shields). Night sights for defensive purposes, Hi-Viz for range use, standard sights blacked out (or white front) works just fine.

I have a PC Shield w/ the Hi Viz sites and most of the time really like them. But at one indoor range I use (which is quite dim) after awhile they do get a little harder to pick up. Could be after a bunch of rounds fired (the porting dirtying up the front site some) or just the lack of light.

I am considering a combo front site, i think Tru Glo makes one with Tritium and FO for the best of both worlds. Haven't seen one in use though.

My other MP's are all stock white sights, that i used colored polish on the front dot to make it stand out.

Wow! This is a tough little problem to solve: picking out my edc! I've read plenty good about both the Original & the 2.0 (lots of fans of the 2.0 over the Original. But others say there really isn't that great a difference & that the $ savings on the Original makes it the better buy) so about the only way I'm gonna know which trigger I like better is to get each in my hand & try 'em out. Since this piece will be for life/death use (God forbid) & training I will probably go with a blackened-out rear & something good for both day/night on the front. I've been reading that if one were to have to shoot for sd it's highly likely there would be no need nor time to use any sights: your assailant would be so close that the larger factors at play would be one's ability to get the gun in the fight b4 being incapacitated, and keeping one's sh_t together well enough to put rounds on target. And lots of guys are saying that were you to need sights for target acquisition it's likely only the front would be required. This all sounds good to me so for now that's how I'm gonna play it. I have heard the 2.0 tends to be a bit uncomfortable against bare skin & have a habit of grabbing clothes, but I've also read that sanding the grip on the 2.0 can eliminate these issues.

The grip texture on any of the 2.0's is why I've stayed with my earlier versions. I'm not one to alter my guns (grip, trigger, etc) and I do not care at all for the feel of it, but that's just me.
One possible holster option to combat the texture vs skin concerns would be something like Alien Gear with the taller back piece (neoprene or leather) that may protect against rubbing. I haven't personally used them yet but they seem to do well in reviews. May be an option to consider anyway

I should wear my glasses but I don’t. I think regular sights give a clearer site picture during the day than night sights. I’m seriously thinking about the Big Dot Site, people say they’re great for old tired eyes.

I second SATX's suggestion to consider express type sights like the the XS Big Dot. They are very quick to acquire the front sight picture, albeit at the expense of a bit of accuracy perhaps. But a fast combat effective hit is usually better than a slow perfectly placed one.

Also take a look at using a stick-on bifocal at the top of your eye glass lens of your dominate-eye. They allow you to better focus on the front sight. They are soft plastic and can be trimmed to the size you need without interfering with normal vision. Here's the one I used. Cheap and easy. If it turns out they don't work out personally for you, you're only out about $20. I use mine on some military type sunglasses and they have remained stuck for about a year now. However, they don't seem to stick well to the very curved wrap-around lenses.

Eyes? Here's a different suggestion. Lone Wolf can put a reflex sight on your Shield. (Forget about rear and front sight) You'll be able to see the red dot in the reticle with not problem. Where the red dot is that's where the bullet hits!
I sent my slide to Lone Wolf and also bought from them ($349) the Shield RMS sight. Its on constantly so is always there and the battery last 2__3 years. Figure $89 to mill your Shield's slide.
I've had the Burris FF3 (great sight) and a Romeo 1 on my P320.
Hands down, the Shield RMS is my most favorite red dot sight.
I've found my Shield with the red dot sight causes no additional printing and is my EDC.
I was on a site a few weeks back (A group of us cops was chatting about these red dot sights on sidearms.) The one felt within five years most front line gun makers will be offering handguns with red dot sights. (Other than Sig Sauer and Smith & Wesson's present $$$ special ones)
After some thought I feel he may have been right. These things make an expert out of anyone!
There'll be nay-sayers but there was nay-sayers regarding those "plastic" pistols early on too.

I have a Hi Viz front sight with a green pipe. I use that setup on my carry guns. Firstly it's cheap. Good light collection and easy sight acquisition.

TruGlo TFX Pro. Best of all worlds. Tritium and fiber optic with an orange dot around front tritium/fiber optic tube. I have them on my fs 2.0 and will eventually put them on my Shield and gen 1 9c. You won't be sorry. If you prefer white around the front tritium/fiber optic, get the standard TFX.
