Stocking Dealer?

I'm under the impression a Stocking Dealer is one that can actually order directly from the factory. In order to achieve this status the Stocking Dealer has to commit to purchasing a set minimum of firearms and usually has to keep certain models in stock at all times. In return for this they get a price break and access to Stocking Dealer Special Editions that in some cases are drool worthy. All other dealers have to purchase their handguns through a distributor which adds another layer of cost.

Whew! Finally, a non-wise*** response!

I was starting to get worried.;)

I thought a "stocking dealer" was a brick-and-mortar store. He has STOCK.

My dealer works out of his garage. You want him to get you a gun, he orders it. He has nothing in stock.

Store I used to work at had about a thousand guns "in stock". That, in my opinion, would be a "stocking dealer".

Scooter, Thanks for the straight up answer. With the "new for 2014" Smiths coming out sooner or later will the eager buyers be able to go to lgs that are stockers to get the guns sooner?

Joe :)

I would rather discuss the stocking dealer "Victoria's Secret"-----I know-I know, I am just a dirty old man.
Its the little things that make the conversation.
Blessings

How do you know who is a stocking dealer for what brands? If the big stores like Cabela's and Bass Pro aren't (I haven't seen any signs) then who is?

Me - I'm a dirty old man, and proud of it.

I want to die, running naked down the street - shot down by a jealous husband, when I'm 85. :p

Wasn't there a black market for nylons during world war two? I suppose those guys were called "stocking dealers".

I doubt it. Currently it seems like the Stocking Dealer system isn't being supported by the factories. I have 2 S&W Stocking Dealers near me and neither have been able to pry any revolvers out of S&W. The only good news is that they are deluged with M&P's in various flavors and those are easy to sell. My takeaway on this is that S&W is not making ANY revolvers at present, they have shifted all production into the various polymer semi's and the rifles.

S&W isn't the only maker who has strayed away from their most loyal base. I'm a big fan of Sig Sauers Classic P series pistols and the dealers local to me and in Ohio can lay their hands on a P220, P226, P229, or P239 no matter how much they beg for one. It seems Sig is concentrating on the P238, P938, and P224, all pistols the I have absolutely ZERO interest in either shooting or purchasing.

The end result of all this is that I've become a big fan of Ruger. In the past two years I've purchased their Gunsite rifle and 3 of the SR1911 and can't lodge a complaint about any of them. The next thing I may pick up is a Ruger Vaquero to scratch my itch for a single action revolver.

A stocking dealer is an FFL that has a brick and mortar store front and "stocks" firearms... NOT a shade tree dealer that operates out of his basement or outbuilding... I am not a stocking dealer...
