Stocking up on Ammo.

I started going to Estate sales about 15 years ago. Haven't been to one in 2 years. Mostly overpriced garbage.

We have a dozen or so Estate Sale companies near us. A couple even have FFLs. Guns, ammo, reloading equipment or components never hit the shelves. I believe that they have buyers all set up and everything is sold before they open up. Private sales advertise "reloading", but its mostly rusty junk.

A few years ago I was at a sale and they had a locking Doscocil 4 handgun case. It was the only gun related item on site. There were several wood gun cabinets but all were empty. The case in question was locked with no key and seemed a little heavy. I took a chance. I knew I could pick the lock.

Good news / bad news. It contained a loaded 6" Model 27, but it was wearing goodyears. I kept the 6 rounds and took it back. Got my $2 back. The clerk said that all of the guns the old codger had were sold before the sale. They were quite happy with me because the 27 was the only one on his permit that they didn't find. It was then reported stolen.

We have yet to see real insanity. That will come with the next change in White House leadership if it's the wrong party that takes over. I am old enough and have gone thru several of these "shortages" and I learned my lessons from them. If you reload stock up when you can even if it hurts your wallet. Better to have in this arena than not have. Rarely are there deals too good to pass up in this game. You don't want to be the one that says, "I wish I had bought more." It is quite comforting knowing I can go downstairs and sit at my reloading bench and crank out any number of rounds for the calibers I shoot. It wasn't always that way years ago, before I got serious about reloading....

When Virginia made it a requirement that even private sales needed to go through FFL's, it did put a crimp on some sales, but for the most part, I still find weapons at these sales, we just have to make a trip to a local FFL, I usually give the seller an extra 10 to cover ⛽️ as I usually get deals you can't pass up. Now once, I came across a Safari Arms Matchmaster, very well used, and I collect anything Safari Arms, guy would not budge off 1100, down the road in a very influential hood, I found a matching serial Ed pair of stainless Vaqueros in 45 colt, Lady was asking 250 each, I offered 350 each, got killer deal on the rest, I bough her husband's entire collection including all his fishing gear and poles. This of course necessitated a course change home, I had to stop at the premium outlets coach store and buy the purse and clutch? The wife had been eying, after all, it IS hard for her to get mad at me with two coaches in her hands.

Components do not require a background check. The politicians didn't think about that.

A Sunday afternoon ride to PA is a wonderful way to spend the day. There are several gun shops right across the border and they are all stocked up.

However, I hear that they have raised their prices a bit.

Shhh!!! don't let them hear you say that. I'm all stocked up on ammo and components. It's a particular revolver I'm looking for and is impossible to find. Watching GB every day.
 
I'd be happy to find some .35 Remington and .270 Winchester.

NY does not allow mail order/internet purchase/delivery of ammunition.
In NY stores ammo background check in place. Conducted by non-gov't vendor who requires SSN. Fee involved. Many delays, Go is good for 3 days since initial query. If you get a Go on 3rd day and don't get back to purchase until 4th, you must start the process again. System already breached for SSN numbers. NY says not their problem , take it up with vendor.
I don't know if person-to-person sales without background check is legal. I haven't had the need to do so yet.

I'm not going to the range as much as I would like, but at 69 I don't do lots of things as often as I would like.

I am back in RI for the summer, and I brought a few pistols with me, but no ammo. i figured it is harder to mak e a case against me if I had guns and no ammo.
I got back to RI and ordered ammo, which I can do, because I have a RI "Blue Card ". Otherwise no shipments to RI. I also bought some from my LGS. He does not care that I have a GA ID

That is correct to some degree. They have to buy ammunition from a licensed ammunition vendor (LAV). They do it, but don't get caught in the Agricultural Check Stations at the border.....
