Stopped at toy store and 4566 followed me home.

Stopped at a mens toy store on the way hunting this afternoon. Found a 4566 and got it out the door for $587. More than I wanted to pay, but less than the going rate elsewhere. I just can't help myself, love 3rd gens. Just one mag though, fortunately I had already acquired (3) 8 round to use in my 4516.

Nice. Of course I’ll say everybody “needs” a Commander size but a better D/A 4566, (and the like,)

The mid size S&W 3rd Gen 45’s were/are a really good choice. Goldiocks like, “this one’s too big, this one’s too small, this one’s just right.” (Although still somewhat kinda heavy for all day carry.)

Years ago I got a, (now nice,) LE trade in one that originally didn’t have a trigger play spring. John/18DAI confirmed it was one of the last 4566’s sent out and it was correct as ordered . (Still miss my/our great friend.)

I gave it a good brake cleaner bath and re-oiled in those pics. It looked like it hadn't been cleaned in years. Kind of streaky after cleaning, need to let the oiling soak in. Finish is good, but some uneven spots. Not sure if I will bead blast it or not. May leave this one alone.

The barrel hood has been polished. May blast that.

Congratulations! I'd have been all over it at that price! Hard to find a decent 2nd or 3rd gen at less than $600 these days.

I've had mine for about a dozen years, only it's the TSW version. Just the right size and so much fun to shoot. I can actually shoot this one better than I can my 4506, Remington Rand or US&S 45's.

The last gun I bought was a 4566TSW. I actually stopped to check for 3rd gen 9mm mags and saw the 4566 in the case. Never got to check out the magazines... Nice to see I'm not the only one.

The 4566 was our NMSP smaller sidearm for lieutenants and above, and non-uniformed types. A fine pistol that was (and is) very accurate and extremely reliable.

If you hand load, Nosler 185s, or 200 XTPs. Run em hot, 1000+ fps. Don’t worry, that’s no sissy pistol. You’re not going to hurt it. Great accuracy. On a good day, 5 shots around 2 inches at 25 yards.

Great price, I have one and I was able to pick it up for $550 with original grips, case and extra mag.
These grips came with 4506 as an extra set so I threw em on.
