I have an older Corvette that I'd like to keep but don't really intend to drive it anymore. Is it possible to get some insurance to cover it just for theft and fire protection while in storage? My insurance agent seems to be stonewalling on this subject.

I have State Farm insurance, and have "Comprehensive" storage insurance on my truck 5-6 months a year. Theft, fire, storm damage, etc are covered.

Yes, it is. Google "collector or classic car insurance". There are a number of companies that specialize in insuring infrequently driven classic cars, usually at low rates, especially if garaged. About 10 years back I paid something like $100 a year on a 57 chevy I owned, but don't remember the company name now.

I'm sure you know this but some insurance companies have had trouble with folks who carry storage insurance only then take it out for a spin and get involved in an accident, then they expect coverage. This might be the problem with your insurance company. I do think most companies will write a storage policy for customers in good standing who have other vehicles insured with them. I don't see anything wrong with pressing your agent a little to see what the problem is.

I have State Farm, I've been told that if I am going to store my car for an extended period, i can put the insurance on hold. I think I am only charged for the comprehensive part. If I want to go out for a drive, a phone call instantly re activates it. I haven't tried it out, so I don't know if it is really that easy.

How old is the Vette? Hagerty and Grundy are the biggest names in collector insurance. My 67's with Hagerty and I still drive it. The policy's year round, meaning if I want to take a ride on Christmas Day, I can without having to make a phone call. I'm pretty sure they'll have something to suit your needs. Pretty sure you're not the only one just storing. The problem with going with a standard issue insurance company is what your vehicle's worth. Something untoward happens and they'll pay what their book says your car's worth. If your appraisal says $25,000 and their front office says $12,500, guess who eats the difference. I have mine covered for replacement value. That's the difference between standard issue and collector car insurance. A Google search and a few phone calls are well worth your time and could save a lot of heartburn down the road. Good luck.

I have a corvette that I drive in the summer and store in the winter, in my garage. I call my insurance agent every late Oct and tell them to drop the collision and liability but keep the comprehensive on. Then I reverse that in late March.
Have done that for ten years.
You might want to shop around for another insurance agent. I had Allstate for 30 years but they forgot who their customer was so I moved.

If it is the only car on the policy it cannot be put on Comprehensive only. If there are others then it is dependent on Company rules and filings. I will send you a PM or E-mail.

I have stored several 911's over the years. I simply reduce the liability coverage to the minimum required by state law and increase the collision deductible to the maximum. You can never be sure when you may want to take the car out of storage with little notice. Here in Tx we have to have a car inspected before we can renew the yearly registration, so I have to take a stored car out at least once a year to avoid having to go to the courthouse to re-register the car. While this may not be the cheapest approach, it is the most convenient.

I have Progressive, through USAA. I have discounted (they call it storage) insurance that allows for variable amounts of driving. I set mine for 3k/yr.
