Strange looking model 41 ? ?

It sort of looks like a model 41 that was maybe inside a safe when the house caught on fire.
Guns , even if stored in a safe , will show a blackened appearance from the sooty smoke . This sooty black residue coats everything inside the safe. If the wood grips aren't charred there may not be any heat damage...but a gun that has been exposed to fire/heat may have had the heat treating compromised.
Examine the bore and wood before buying.
I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole .

Look at the way the rear sight on the barrel extension has pulled away upward from the slide and frame. "Warped" is the word I was groping for.

Its worth the $190.00 to find out as all parts are available to rebuild it and fairly easy to obtain as well. As long as the slide will rack it should be fine even if it was overheated in a fire. I have heated steel many times without hurting the temper in it.
Having had a really close look at the 41, I believe that there is some form of removable attachment on the muzzle. Probably some type of barrel weight. Also, I'm really not convinced that it has suffered any heat damage. I get the impression that the pistol was improperly stored for a long period of time. However, I could be totally wrong about.....
Guessing it is an Australian import that has an underbarrel setup for add-on weights using a 5" bbl and the screw-in plug that is D&T similar to the 7 3/8" bbl. Mine has two weights that can be used separately or ganged together.
Not sure as to damage as grips would have burned if a fire.

It's the strange stuff at the muzzle that I can't quite figure out. I've never seen anything like this before. Some kind of barrel weights make sense. And does that barrel look longer than a 5 inch ? A cut down 7 maybe ?

It's an older model, as it has the cocking indicator on the rear, so I'm guessing it came with the compensator and someone used the threaded hole to mount a home made weight for balance.
I would take a chance for under $400. The photos are awful, maybe by design? The rear sight looks like it is cranked up, giving the illusion of a warp.
