Okay I admit as a history major I have some unusual interests beyond the usual WWI and II - Roman conquests, feudal Japan, Ireland but especially the Zulu Wars.

At the local big gun show a gentleman was selling his own book called the Horns of the Buffalo about the various battles between the British forces and Zulu warriors. He was kind enough to autograph my copy. I've watched every movie about this and read most of the works over time and I've decided to add one if not two to the bucket list
- shooting a Webley revolver in .455 or .38
- shooting a Martini Henry - major long shot

I live in Western New York and I am a member at a local gun club. If anyone has one of the two firearms or knows someone who does locally please let me know via PM. I'd love to see them and if possible fire them and we can work out the details

It's a long shot but worth a try. And this forum is always surprising me with its knowledge and collections so why not give it a try!

Grim,
I was passing thru where an old friend lives and stopped in for a few days. Out on his deck firearms came up and he went in side to get something. His family were Canadians before moving to Colorado. "I'll bet you don't know what this is" he said, he looked disappointed when at first glance I said Webley. It was his fathers service pistol.

Wouldn't you have to pass a background check, take safety class, and go through an FFL to handle those in NY?

Darn. I have an unaltered Weblely Mark VI .455 and a chromed 38/200 Mark I* Enfield, and I was just up in Warren County, PA. If I had known you were looking to shoot these I could have brought them and some shells up if there was somewhere we could have met in PA. No way can I come into NY with any handguns.

Here is a picture of the Enfield along with a couple pictures of the last target I fired at with it. Considering that it can't be cocked it did pretty well.

Grimm I saw that guys table Saturday morning. He didn't seem to be drawing much interest. He looked like he was gonna fall asleep. I kinda felt bad for him. Glad he sold at least one book.

if you are ever in North Texas, come by and you can drive this one around the block.;) It's a Mk I .455. Made circa 1910. The target is at 15yds. pretty fair group (for me) but left of center.

A previous owner had it nickle plated.  I don't know what kind of shape the finish was in so maybe it needed it. Too bad.

That you had to take a class and have a background check to get?

As I recall yes. It was thirty something years ago when I turned 21. My first handgun was a beauty model 19 .357. Chewed out five holes in the center bullseye at 50 feet with wad cutters and threw the 6th round cause I got nervous. Like a dope sold it but have two 19s back in the safe for range fun these days.
