Strikefire 2 on it's way.

Fedex should drop it off this Sat.
I ordered the Strikefire 2 red dot and the Mount for absolute zero.

Good luck with it.
I'm impressed with Vortex and their scopes/sights I've demoed this week.
Unfortunately, both-eyes-open did not work well for me on the SPIT FIRE 2, so the Sparc AR was a better choice for me.

Why didn't you choose a SparcAR instead?

I was debating back and forth on the two, And all it came down too was I liked the looks of the Strikefire, I know that's not very scientific.
I learned to go by looks from Golf and Archery....

Isn't the Sparc AR a red dot sight? If so, it is intended to be used with both eyes open.

I think you've missed his intent? He is saying that because the Strikefire doesn't do as well with stereoscopic sighting, he prefers the SparcAR because it does.

They are both tube type red dot sights without magnification. I don't see how one is better than the other when it comes to being able to keep both eyes open.

The Sparc AR is a a TRUE red dot, so it's always clear.

The Spirtfire AR is a 1x scope, so the picture is not always clear based on how many eyes I had open, and my eye location in relation to the glass.

That was MY experience after personally testing all the sites/scopes for myself. Your results may vary, but I think my experience/opinion is universally accepted. Good luck. :)

The Strikefire 2, which this post is about, is a red dot sight. It has no magnification, just like the Sparc series... So, your statement that one did not work with both eyes open makes no sense.

If what you meant is that one has clearer glass over the other, or one has less perceived parallax over the other, then I can understand... but that is way different than "both-eyes open did not work well for me"...

I think you are confusing the Strikefire with the Spitfire prism scope, which are two different animals.

As far as your opinion being universally accepted... well, no. Shooting with both eyes open, even when using an optic with magnification, is possible. It is called the Bindon aiming concept. The key is that it is for fast target acquisition, or tracking a moving target. (what a red dot is meant for) If you were peering through the magnified optic with it stationary, and looking at a stationary target, your brain is going to focus on the dominant eye, which will be the one looking through the optic... and that is where eye relief, eye placement, etc. come into play.

Check out this site to understand what I am saying.

Maybe he got the names mixed up.

StikeEagle 1-6x
StrikeFire 1x red dot reflex
SpitFire 1x or 3x prism
SparcAR 1x red dot reflex

Heck... with all the Striking, Spitting, Firing and Sparking... I got confused just typing the list! :D

LOL. I bet he did too...

Yup.
I was obviously referring to the SPITFIRE, which is a prism.
We all know red dots don't have issues with both-eyes-open.

Frankly, it makes no sense for the STRIKEFIRE to even be in a current thread since it's been replaced by newer and better models.
But, hey, the joke is on me.

Regardless, I bought two "new for 2016" optics this week to co-mount for the best of both worlds,
so I'm all good.
- Primary Arms/Holosun HS503g Red Dot with ACSS 5.56 Reticle
- Primary Arms 3X Compact Prism Scope with ACSS 5.56 Reticle

Now THAT is an interesting optic. A chevron reticle in a reflex design. Apparently, Primary Arms has had it for a while... I need to pay more attention. Nice choice. Be sure to post a review when you start using it.
I may have to get one. I'd love to have an Aimpoint micro like that.

Reviews.

Received the Strikefire 2....
Have not mounted our even taking it out of the box yet.
Later today maybe....
Funny how things get off topic quickly....LOL.
You will like it :) Easy install and you can use the caps to adjust the Red Dot. They say Sight the Iron sight first then the Red Dot
I have 200+ rounds from the one I just got! At 100 yards you can see the paper but not the Rings of the target, SO IMO for my 50 yards will be my average!

From reading my post replies, everyone on this forum, and probably the banned ones as well :D, know that my knowledge with a red dot is very minimal. But, when it comes to sighting in regular ole every day scopes, I know my way around that area, a little bit. Remember, I am in La. and we love to hunt here. That + rifles + scopes = look out Mr Buck! ;)
Seriously, my grandfather taught me how to shoot a rifle and sight in a scope. He always sighted in at 50 yards. Is this typical with a red dot, or, is it better to sight a red dot in at 100 yards? My mind is like a sponge and it's ready to soak up as much knowledge as y'all are willing to share.

First off I am mainly a shotgun shooter Skeet and birds ,both have not done in years ! As for the Red Dot and my AR I am a total Noob so take my 2cents with a grain of thought :) If I remember right it is best to sight the red dot in at 50 yards, ( I have to re sight mine :O At 100 yards I could see the shape of the letter size paper but not the Zombie, I was lucky in my shot ,you will see in pic I guessed :O and the 100 yard target it was also a blurr, Plus I have 63 y/o eyes :O I was taught in 71 with my A1 to shoot center mass so that is what I tried . I will be interested what the pros have to say :)

There's an indoor range the next town over, I did the 10 yard 50 zero.
I'll go back after I get the red dot on zeroed on top of my iron sight....

There are many thoughts on this. I prefer a 50 yd zero for my red dot on the AR. With a 50 yd zero, you are always within +/- 2 inches all the way out to 200 yards.

I set mine at 25 yards first time, then went out to 50 yards. I'm very happy with the results at 50 yards on a rest. I was keeping them in a 3 in group. So at 100 yards I'm pretty sure I can hit a center mass shot if needed.

Zero a red dot (any sighting device) to best suit what you're doing.

Generally speaking, a simple red dot is a point and click aiming device for fast target acquisition offhand shooting with no reticle holdover considerations. Just bring up the rifle, center mass point and click.

AR platform has a greater measure of sight over bore (2.5in) compared to a typical hunting rifle of about (1.5in). This plays into trajectory in relation to line of sight.

Graphs-
The vertical numbers on the left side of the graphs indicate bullet travel above and below line of sight (0) measured in inches. If you draw a line at the (0) straight across the graph that would be your line of sight.

The numbers on the bottom are distance in yards.

So... which zero best accomodates your intended shooting distances?

This is a graph for a 50yd zero.

This is a graph for a 100yd zero
