striker fired pistols

This is an unusual request but I would like for someone to talk through the internal operation of a striker fired pistol. As of right now I do not like them. I always liked to see the status of the hammer. When I cannot see it I am wary.Any help?

Certain models like S&W/Walther 99 series and Springfield XDs' have strikers that protrude from the rear of the slide. It gives the shooter a cocking indicator. Just one more reason to treat every gun as if it were loaded.

The trigger/striker mechanism on the M&P couldn't any more simple and that is one of it's biggest strengths IMO.

It's simple really, load the mag and insert it in the gun, rack the slide to load a round in the chamber. When the round is loaded the striker cams over the sear and sets itself againt the back of the sear in a "cocked" state. The M&P's have a firing pin blocking system that requires that a plunger at the rear of the slide be depressed to unloack the firing pin, till it's pushed the firing pin isn't going anywhere. To fire pull the trigger and 2 things happen simultaneously, thetrigger bar has a hump on it that depresses the firing pin block safety and the sear it levered down which disengages the striker allowing it to slam forward into the primer, discharging the weapon. simply put, it the trigger isn't pulled, the gun will not fire.

The trigger itself has a trigger block built in that prevents it from stroking back on it's own. This requires that a finger be inside the triger guard to actually depress the trigger which rotates the frame stop into a recess in the back of the trigger itself, allowing for a full pull of the trigger in the process.
