Summer has finally started.

It;s hot and muggy and it isn't even officially summer yet.
Not a poke at you, but I find the whole concept of an "official" summer laughable. I put it in the box with all the other little control phrases the naked apes use for comfort. Summer, or whatever comes as and when, we just have to deal with it on the day.

Back near “ home” where I grew up. Staying at Grandson’s near the Great Dismal Swamp and temps have been close to 90. Biggest surprise is No Bugs! Yellow flies and mosquitos used to eat one alive years ago. Headed back to Ga/ Fl line tomorrow so back to near 100 temps which I can deal with as no arthritis pain.

Today is supposed to be the first day over 90 this year. Supposed to be 95 today and tomorrow. Humidity is supposed to vary between 25% during the day to 75% at night. Time to start closing the house up each morning so I can cool the house in the evening. With no A/C, the house should get to about 85-90. Luckily, I have gallons of tea, and the ice maker is humming along.
Now cue LVSteve or members from Arizona to chip in with ridiculous numbers. Look, our summers are cooler than yours, but it affects us too. However, it is much better than 40 and raining. Which is fall to spring. How's the weather where you are?
Best money I spent on a non-AC solution was to get a whole house fan.
I have a 2 story house and during the really warm/hot/smoggy days, I will open the downstairs windows and turn on the HH fan in the morning and evening.
Not only does it bring in the cool morning air but it brings in the smell from the flowers and just watered lawn. In the evening, it brings in the warm evening breeze too.
Even on the hot 100+ days, this is enough so that what little AC is needed is greatly reduced.

Well, we USED to have definite seasons and the solstices weren't a bad indicator of when seasons started. There was always variation, though. People said, "Feels like Summer's come early". Anymore we have two seasons. Hot and dry and hot and wet, with a few days of Spring and sub-zero Winter. It's been that way since about 1980 and just gotten moreso over the years.

As of 5 PM it is 97 on the back (western side) patio. It's 82 inside. And while it's hotter today than yesterday, It's gonna cool off faster and get lower tonight. Tomorrows high is forecast to be 86 and then 77 the day after. Much more civilized temps. :)

Monsoon here in S. E Va. at Grandsons. Headed back home tomorrow and most likely spend the night in Savannah. See Granddaughter and check out PSA. We need rain back home.

We are doing better than last year. So far we have not had a high over 105°F and we had a bunch of storms run through the valley midweek. Not the monsoon weather pattern, but genuine weather from the West.

As for closing up house, that is SOP in Vegas 24/7, if not for the heat then for for the dust. Then there are the bugs...Having the house like that is disturbing to many visitors from the Midwest and even some parts of SoCal. The blinds are also all closed to keep the sun out, a concept that many Brits find bizarre when the sun is shining. One visit my father left the blinds open in his room while we were out exploring one day. He never did it again.
Don't know where in the valley LVSteve lives. He posts about scorpions, lizards and rain. I experience none of those. Before I arrived here, I listened to 'experts' who broadcast that A/C was only for the daytime and that ceiling fans alone were used at night. Yeah, right! I even felt a sense of pride when several times last summer, we were hotter than Phoenix!

Oh - that might be why my windows are fogged up - lol! We had a spectacular winter and spring here so I can not and will not complain. This is the time we pay he piper! We need the rain!

Anyone need rain? I'd be happy to send you some. If you promise to send some sun and warmth.

I feel like I'm in the PNW instead of the Poconos.
LOL. We haven't has any rain in this part of the PNW for a couple of weeks. It was an uncharacteristic 90 on May 28. 78 on the 30th and 87 on Sunday. Looks like it's going to be normal this week, though.

Send your rain up to the NE British Columbia/Alberta border. It's wildfire season up there and they've started evacuations :(

Went in Texas Roadhouse for dinner, sat at the bar and ordered a gin and tonic. Bartender said they don't have tonic anymore so Jack on ice with water. Talked to 4 other guys at the bar, all way younger and just off work. They all complained about the rain this week. Told them back on Ga. Fl. line we need the rain. I don't want the Okie. swamp to burn this summer, nasty smoke. One used “ monsoon” and I didn’t say anything as they have no clue what the real monsoon is like….

Canadian wildfires are affecting air quality in western NY and as far south as South Carolina. It’s been happening the last 2-3 yrs. I don’t ever remember it happening before that???????
