Summer J frame carry

I just got back from a few days in Austin, TX. 90+ degrees while I was there and I brought my 642 along. It wears Ergo Delta Grips and rides in a Mike Pocket Holster in my right front pocket. Bianchi Speed Strip in the other pocket in a Side Guard Speed Strip holder.

If you want you can replace your old and Renegade with a new Wilderness ankle holster. Although that said I'm not sure that they Supply their snubbies for the D Frame. They might. At any rate the Wilderness version is arguably an improvement on the old Renegade but also a copy. The owners tried to contact the makers but the makers had unfortunately disappeared so they started manufacturing a copy. They are working with a custom holster maker to make ankle holsters in leather in otter sizes so if they don't do a D Frame the custom maker might.

Also I'm curious since I have a 36 - 1 Smith square butt: do you have trouble concealing the square butt of the cobra? I find that the square butt of the Smith I have to push down lower if I'm carrying appendix compared to the 36 no dash round butt I have.

For a long time, I used a K-frame Don Hume JIT slide as a pocket holster for various J-frame revolvers with factory Magnas and usually a Tyler. Lately I have been carrying a Model 12 (airweight K frame) with service grips and a Tyler in the same holster. It's all about pocket size.

I also have Renegades for S&W J and Colt D, but that's not really a primary position for most circumstances.

Oooooo, can we get a pic of that 12 and holster?

I use an Alessi Ghost IWB for the J Frame in an appendix position. I love this holster as it was designed to not need a belt. So it's perfect for summer (or anytime) IWB carry.

Or if my shorts have big enough front pockets I'll use a MIKA OR SAFARILAND pocket holster

It hides pretty well but not like my 442 which disappears.

Well, I think that this link will show a picture of the holster: D Hume Jit 1 S&w K Frame Brn Rh .

I will try to attach a photo of the 12. it would be a day or two before I could make and upload and compress and post a photo of my holster (black) and gun together.

To answer njr's question, close but not quite. I was once 5 feet 11 inches, but I have surely shrunk a half inch or more by now. Note my comment that it's all about pocket size. That's not completely true. My 12 with service grips conceals in more trousers than my Model 15 with Rogers/Safariland grips, which I have also carried in the front pocket of my Dockers, with the same holster.

Very informative, thankyou all. While my primary carry has always been a full sized 1911 of the Springfield Armory Mil-Spec or Kimber Raptor variety, I've found at times a full sized simply doesn't cut it due to it's size. I do have a VERY beautiful blued Mod 36LS, but it's so beautiful I can't get myself to carry it so I went and found a Mod 36 no dash nickel plated J frame. It's quite a nice little puppy, lockup is as tight as a custom piece, no turn line, it does have a little tarnishing of the nickel finish by the top of the grips, best of all I got her for 337 OTD.

Here's my question:

What's the best holster for this? I prefer leather, and always use an IWB model.

Would you guys/gals who use the J frame daily recommend an IWB or opt for an OWB with a thumbsnap?

Thanks in advance
