I was watching Longmire do the Sun Dance with hooks in his chest tied to a pole he had to pull.
In the movie "A Man Called Horse" an old Injun man tells the council, "Because he is white, he is weak! He wil cry out and bring shame to the ceremony." They hauled up Richard Harris and he gave out a cry of pain, but didn't lose control and ask to be cut down. Here is what I would say when they hauled me up:
"OHMYGODOHMYGODCUTMEDOWNRIGHTNOWIMEANITI'LLGIVEYOUANYTHINGJUSTGETMEDOWNFROM HEREDAMNYOUREYESI'LLCALLMYLAWYERFORGOD'SSAKELETMEDOWNTHAT'SENOUGHTSTOPSTOPSTOP......"
And I would continue yelling and screaming until they'd cut me down just to shut me up.
Seriously, who finds the Sun Dance fascinating and awesome?
We white folks are supposed to support but not attend the ceremonies. I don't mean any disrespect here but I'm plainly not and never claim to be that brave.
