The rarest .38 Super M1911 is the pre-war version with the Swartz Safety. The Swartz Safety blocked the firing pin unless the grip safety was depressed. Allegedly that safety was never used on any .45 M1911, and legend has it that most, if not all, of those SS-equipped .38 Supers went to the OSS during WWII.
