For some reason, I decided that I needed a Ruger Super Redhawk in .44 Rem Mag to add to my stable. I've always liked the Redhawk models (and Blackhawks for the matter)....they're built like tanks. I used to have a Redhawk years ago, but sold/traded it off.
Well, after 2 weeks of looking on line and getting desensitized to the sticker shock, I discovered that the Super Redhawk in .44 Mag is tough to find. Plenty of 10mm, .480, and .454 Casull to choose from, but, the ones chambered in .44 mag. were rather scarce. Got out bid on a couple of them and that was getting north of $1,000.00! I finally located one at a pawn shop about a 40 minute drive from my house. It's used, but just barely. Looked dang near new. It's a 2013 model with a 7.5" barrel, and came with everything that it came with from the factory (all paperwork, plastic case, spent cartridge, rings, lock, etc.). The sticker on the case was $779.95, so getting it for $850.00 (+ tax of course) didn't seem too unreasonable.

So, after getting it home, I had to put my personal touch on it. Couldn't stand the factory (Hogue) finger groove grips, so I ordered the Hogue Classic style with the wood inlays. Much better feel and look! Topped it off with a Gen 2 Ultra Dot 2 moa optic (and was lucky to find that!).
So, now my quest for ammo began. I should have researched that before I bought the gun! A buddy was kind enough to GIVE me a 50 rd box American Eagle 240 gr JHP, and 15 rds of 240 gr Blazer HPs. Another buddy, who owns a gun shop, brought me a box of Mag Tech 240 gr FMJ ($40.00).
On line auction sites are just crazy! I feel violated! I ended up finding 50 rds of Fiocchi 240 JHP, and 25 rds of Remington 240 gr SJHP. Of course, I had to take out a second mortgage on my house to pay for it.
(Fiocchi ammo hasn't arrived yet)
And, yet another buddy brought be 2 partially full OLD 20 rd boxes of Federal and Winchester Super X 240 gr SP/HP. Then, to add insult to injury, and still aggravated for having to drop about $175.00 for 75 rd of 44 mag, I see this price tag on the Winchester box that my buddy gave me.....Yeah, that's right, THREE DOLLARS SEVENTY CENTS.....American!
Yeah, that didn't help my blood pressure any.
I'll get it zeroed in tomorrow with the FMJ ammo, then see how close the HP ammo is to that and adjust as necessary. Once that's done, I'll just be hunting with it so my ammo supply should last a while.
Oh Yeah, I have a camo nylon chest rig holster coming for it. That should be here tomorrow.
Over and out!
