Suppressor - Outback II or Tac 65 ?

Belt Fed - I see your point on having a sealed suppressor like the Outback II, but was told over time lead would build up that can't be cleaned out without disassemley. The carbon can be removed via soaking, but what about the lead ? can they be soaked in a lead disolving bore cleaner or would that screw up the finish ?
I've heard great things about the OutbackII but didn't want to buy something that I couldn't clean with the added expense of sending it in and paying to have it cleaned.

I've gotten a yhm phantom 556 back in the shop that no one had ever cleaned and they wanted to send it back for them... I took a look at it and decided to see if alittle cleaning would go along way so I filled it full of kroil and let it sit over night coame in and took 308 brush and run threw it to clean the main channel and then took a 12 gauge shot gun brush and used it for a few min then sprayed it back full and let it set again over night and repeated it the next day I may have even added some bore cleaner along the way.. but anyway we compaired it to a new 1 and know one could tell a difference... as long as you clean them after every use you won't have that problem...

I've heard so many things good and bad about each brand. I found a good site that has the YHM Mite and the Tac 65 for $200 each. The Outback II is $299. I know there are more expensive models like the Silencerco Sparrow, but for $400-$500 are they that much better ?
I've decided not to go with a full auto rated as a requirement. I don't currently own a .22 SMG and with prices what they are I'm sure I won't be investing that much any time soon. Still need to lift the new truck and get bigger tires ;)

I've put several different models on the same gun I've got a few friends that own different things and we get new ones in all the time that people order and they want a how too or hear the 1 they r buying... and ill be honest there ain't a dimes worth of difference in any of them even side by side... some models do a better job of taken care of that first round pop but a teaspoon of water will do that to any model. If your going to sppend 400 to 500 get a yhm phantom phantom with the qd you won't be sorry and use it on your 22s and 223.. if you want a 22 can yhm makes the maxum suppressors also for 22 we have 1 its off set so you can still see your sites no matter what gun you put it on... it doesn't come apart but it is bad ....

Spoke with a local LEO about how our CLEO as in relation to Class 3 items. Seems to think there will be no issues.. Left the CLEO a voicemail, so we'll see..

I don't mind waiting 120+ days, I also don't mind photos, fingerprints, background checks.. I'm clean as a whistle and I've got all that on file as is with my work, I'll just have to get it done again..

I am not willing to pay $600 for a trust.. I may work out something else, but for me - $600 + $200 stamp + $350 suppressor = $1150 for a toy just to plink with on a $300 weapon doesn't add up.. :) Perhaps if I was a Columbia druglord and NEEDED the silence, I don't.. I just want another toy to play with on the end of my 15-22, 10-22, P-22 and others.. :D

Spoke with my CLEO.. He said bring him the paperwork.. Gonna take it in Wednesday..

Anyone know of a good site that basically goes step by step for purchase?

I know where I'm going to buy it, so that's taken care of.. Just need to get it all rolling..

Your dealer will fill out the form 4 with the suppressor info, give you print cards and instructions for the CLEO - be sure he follows instructions. Return all to dealer with 2 passport photos and a check for $200 - the wait begins and about 6 months is the norm. Approved form is returned to dealer which authorizes the transfer - you get original to put in a safe place and keep a copy with your suppressor.

Glad your CLEO is willing to hook you up. It's not like that here in central Florida.........unfortunately.
Make sure you check around for pricing. If you can't find a good deal locally, you can buy on the net, avoid local taxes, and just have it transfered to a class III dealer for a fee (usually $25-$50) - which could still be less than buying locally.

Yeh, it seems I am fortunate.. When I get back in the country I am going to call Major Malfunction and see what his price would be.. Local guy quoted me $385 on a Spectre.. I was set on the Tac 65, but with the cleaning - I'd much rather just toss it into a 50/50 dip and call it a day.. :)

Started looking at the Kodiak too, but I think the Spectre will be plenty..

I just want something to run between the MP 15, Ruger 10/22 and P22 and/or whatever .22LR I pick up..

There are tons of .22 suppressors. Major malfunction has good prices from what I've been able to find. Tac65 is $199 there and the Outback is $299. Definitely give them a call, they know their stuff. Also check out the Silencerco Sparrow (make sure it is the Silencerco there is another company with a "sparrow" that is not as good). It's $399, but top quality.

Yeh, I was all set to buy the Tac 65 but don't want to fuss with tearing it down to clean, which led me to stainless cans... Which got me looking at the SWR Spectre...

stainless has its advantages but it's usually heavier than aluminum models. Stainless is usually beneficial for rifles especially if they are auto.
I'm still leaning toward the tac65. I know everyone has a favorite, but check around for videos on youtube. some compare different brands, one compared a tac65 to opening a mountain dew can.

Yeh, I think the sound differences between most of the models available is going to be extremely hard to be heard by the human ear...

I'm looking for ease of ownership.. That includes cleaning, etc..

I've read about guys sending units back to be cleaned - what does that cost? $50 a pop? So I buy a $200 and clean it every what 5,000 rounds? Twice a year or so?

I dunno. I like being able to clean it myself..

I think they're all cleanable. From speaking to the guys at major malfunction the difference is that with lead build up it can become necessary to send in the sealed units. They didn't tell me the cost as it varies by manufacturer. the units that can be disasembled have an advantage in this area as you can take them apart and clean them out to prevent lead build up. However, he said if you religiously clean the sealed units you shouldn't have a problem either.
This is just relayed from what he told me, not first hand experience.
After talking to him I am definitely going with the type that can be disassembled. Even Gemtech came out with one like the Outback II that can be taken apart and cleaned. It's called the Gemtech Alpine and retails at $425 Gemtech Seahunter

Yeh, I'd like an easy clean though.. ;) Soak in some peroxide and vinegar for a few days and blow it clean sure beats sending it out for a $150 cleaning or having someone sand/bead blast it for me...

Sorry if i am bring this back from the dead.
but

I shot a AR-15 today with a Tactical Innovations Tac 65 on it.
Class 3 stamp. it vs my 15-22 without ear plugs. my 15-22 is louder. he was shooting .223 rounds.

it sounded and felt cool. Now that I have shot a AR-15 with a .223 round in it. I may not be buying one lol

The AR uses the Tac16. It's a much heavier construction to handle the larger load and full auto fire. Are you sure it wasn't the Tac16 ? reason is that it's larger and made to handle more internal pressure.

It very well might have been . I know it said Tac on it. I didn't see the number. He didn't have full auto stamp.

my griffin stainless checkmate made it to the dealer yesterday let a few people look it over including a local can builder all thought the quaility was great and the $245 was a great price for the all stainless construction it is also rated for 22mag 17hmr and 5.7x28
just got to drop my form 4 in the mail and the wait begins
you can get the free rerivew of the older checkmate on silencer research
