Found out today the cashiers check for the BATF has cleared. Is there an estimate of how much longer until I can get my suppressor?

Prior to the Sandy Hook incident and the run on guns and ammo, the wait was fluctuating between 3-9 months for tax stamp return.

i have a Gemtech Trek Ti that went pending 8.8.12, i called them yesterday and the guy says i have another 30 days at least. i have a Pilot II in line also that went pending on 12.2.12, so that one is a wait also. they have divided the country into sections and the 9 'examiners' cover them. out west her we have Ann Feltner and she goes the whole 6 months, even on a trust, when there is nothing to investigate really. gotta remember also that those 9 do ALL NFA from SBR's to SBS to MG's! all NFA. the jump since Obama got his second term has been incredible since everyone thinks the tax stamp is going to go up in price or we won't be able to get them at all.
In Europe, i was stationed in Germany for 10 straight years and in most of Ireland and Scotland it is illegal to hunt w/o a can! noise violation. hunted on a private reserve in Scotland for Red Stag and the guide had an 870 with a beautiful suppressor on it for hares.
suppressors ought to be just like buying a handgun here, insta check and out the door, the tax is out dated and the wait just pisses everyone off more about the ATF.
So the Trek may get approved by the latter portion of February, still time to test it on a few more predator hunts prior to it getting hot here. i have others, but really want to try that titanium.

For the good of everyone, including yourself, call and get a pending date 3-4 weeks after the check clears. Then dont call back for 6 months.

Forget about it. Find something else to think about.

Been down this road multiple times... from the early 90's on...

before computers and lightning speed commo... he's absolutely correct...forget about it for 6 months.!!!!!!!

the NFA tracker has been pulled down and the guy said he will no longer maintain it. it is wrong most of the time anyway. bad times for us stamp collectors. this is my first to wait the full 6+ months, EVER. Worthless branch of the ATF anyway, hell the FBI took the ATF's 'E' away from them, since they don't like to deal with explosives!
i am of the opinion that they take the people on 'profile' or have an injury/illness/disability and put them in the job. keeps them out of the field and still lets them work under the ADAA act, which is good, but they should be a lot faster. farm out the work to another company like my job does after they cut my staff by 33 FTE's.

Thanks for the replies. This is my first and for the most part I've done a good job of forgetting about it until I go out to shoot..My check cleared in August, but my class 3 dealer told me to expect it around May or June

if you call and they say it was approved, they will give you the approval date and it is generally mailed that day or the next to your LGS you got it from. the LGS will call you to tell you they have it. Immediately make a bunch of copies and put the original away with your other important paperwork. always keep a copy of the stamp pw with you when you use the can....law. you can shrink down the pw front and back on a copy machine and make a readable card sized copy you can keep in your wallet. i have one section in mine that has 5 shrunk down stamps!!! then i keep a copy of all of them in my truck, and a copy in one of the grips of my AR's. no place to store when using a pistola hence the wallet and truck.
have never been asked to produce it when stopped by the game warden or the cops when i was speeding once. they just actually wanted to check out it's coolness factor! didn't get a ticket!

but your gun store you got it from will call you to come pick everything up, then you have to fill out the 4473 to 'register' your already 'registered' can....which is really dumb. then you take it home.
if you put it in a trust, make sure to add it to your schedule A, assignment of property. it can be handwritten or typed, don't matter.
i keep a copy of the trust in my truck also as it has all my NFA stuff on it also.
if you get another can, use the same trust and the schedule A that has all your other NFA on it as they want the entire trust now, not just the certification.
I have 2 more in line as of the other day. both Hunterstown.

hope that helped. you will definitely get some wood when you get that phone call! last one, i was in the LGS and got the call from the LGS in the same LGS! i just looked up into the balcony and there was my bud calling me! didn't know i was in there, looked down, waved, was OTD in about 20 mins.

another thing if you put it in a trust. if you want to lend it to a bud for a hunt or just to shoot w/o you being there, you can write him in as a beneficiary for the amount of time he is using it and he will be legal. then when he is done, you just remove his name from the trust. cool huh?
can't do that if it was done to an individual.....would be an illegal transfer. they can even get you if you hand your canned gun to your shooting buddy to shoot with you standing right there for an illegal transfer if they wanted to be dicks about it.

just an FYI!

I called the ATF NFA branch number and was told it was pending as of Jan 29, 2013 and it should take about 6 months. I guess that means no sooner than Jul 29, 2013? When they do approve it, will they contact my LGS and is the LGS supposed to notify me?

Sounds about right on the timeline. And yes, your dealer should notify you once they receive the stamp from the ATF.

Thanks, that's going to be about 9 months from the time I turned everything in. A bit longer than I had hoped, but with our current state of affairs......not a surprise.

yup, 6 months from the date it went pending, LGS contacts you. Funny thing after it goes pending i call every 2 months, then every few weeks as it gets closer. when you get your stamp look at the date on it. i had one that got approved but did not get sent to me until it was at the 6 month timeline! it was approved in 4 months, but not sent.
i wonder if they got the email...........

best bet is just forget about it and put a pop up reminder on your PC when it gets close. I figure the 2 in line i have i'll get the same day after early dove season is over in September!!
