Finally got my flash hinder off and took the 15-22 to the range with the sparrow. Most fun I have ever had shooting. Went through over 500 rounds not a single problem. Let the sparrow cool, took about 30 mins, and put it on my 422 pistol. Even quieter but I couldn't see the hits well as I didn't change targets from the 15-22. Finally I shot some colbri ammo through it and it was quieter than any BB gun I have ever heard.

Suppressors should be legal without the form 4 and the tax stamp. So nice to shoot without having to wear head gear.

I have a form 3 and form 4 going right now on and Octane 45 and Warlock 22 and am really excited about getting into suppressed shooting after finally getting my trust set up. What ammo did you use for your MP-15 22? I have a bit of CCI standard (1070fps) that I am hoping will stay subsonic winter and summer.

"Finally got my flash hider off "- Know how you feel. Took a propane torch and a bunch of kroil to finally get mine off the gun! I hopefully should have my sparrow by the end of May. Congrats, It looks fun for sure. In a handgun the CCI standard should stay subsonic. In a rifle - maybe? I have been scouring(sp?) the internet and have found a few sites that have the Eley subsonic readily available. Have been getting 5 boxes at a time here and there. Florida made it legal to hunt with a suppressor so that will be the main use for mine. Picked up my last threaded barrel rimfire yesterday. I have a M&P 15/22, Browning T-Bolt Varmint Reaper, Ruger 22/45Lite and a standard Ruger 10/22 with an extra barrel I had threaded. Still contemplating an MP-22 compact as well. Anyways, fun fun for sure!

CCI Standard Velocity is the standard for shooting 22lr suppressed. It stays subsonic for me all year long. I just picked up another case of 5000 a couple of weeks ago. Norma Tac-22 is a relatively new ammo & I find it as good or better than CCI SV. A few days ago I posted in the ammo thread that it is available by the case and just noted it is still available. Don't play around with getting a box here or there... buy it by the case.
Norma : Norma Tac-22 5000ct

Love my Sparrow so much I have another in jail. Incredibly easy to take apart & clean. I tried other methods but now only use the dip and after a day in it, comes out perfectly clean. I clean after every 500 rounds or so.

You will find the loudest part of shooting the 15-22 suppressed is the cycling of the action and not the bang from the round going off. Easy to prove that by switching your suppressor over to a bolt gun such as my CZ 455. Sounds like a pellet rifle even when using subsonic ammo.

You are preaching to the choir. But don't stop with one stamp because suppressed guns go with SBRs like apple pie goes with ice cream. I found the suppressor added to a 16" barrel was a bit long for me & changed the balance. I tried going with an ultra short 4.5" barrel but had failures when shooting subsonic ammo. Now shoot an 11" barrel & have no failures with any ammo plus the gun is back to carbine length with suppressor attached.

How long does the paper work take to when you can buy the suppressor ?

You buy the suppressor first but it stays where you bought it. Then do the paperwork. That takes up to 6 months +. Unless you have a trust. Once the paperwork is approved you can take legal possession of your suppressor.

All this is assuming your state allows them and your chief LEO signs of

My last suppressor, a Saker 762 which I got a few weeks ago, took right at 3 months for the approval. Mine was filed as a corporation... same requirements as a trust. The Silencer Shop can help you with a trust, if needed.

If you buy from someone like the Silencer Shop, you first have to wait for BATFE to approve them to ship to your local dealer that is approved to sell suppressors. That wait can add 6 weeks or so. Quickest way to get a suppressor is to buy from a local shop that has the can you want in stock.

Here in South Africa they are not controlled. I can walk into a shop and buy ine over the counter. I made my own. Many many game farms are insisting hunters use suppressors on their rifles.

In the UK you can get one based on OHAS (or so my friend said).

Gun laws funny things.

I guess I never really thought about it before, due to UK laws being so finicky.

I kinda just take the suppressed shooting for granted.

Have 2 X .22, a 9mm on order and a 5.56 to come. All with sound mods either on or due to be purchased at time of collection.

Guess I'll keep collecting them as I expand my rifle collection. :D

No other extra paperwork needed so would
be silly not to I guess. :D

My Apologies. My last post was / is a little misleading due to poor wording on my part.

No extra paperwork refers to the form 3/4 that goes with a tax stamp for you guys in the US.

In the UK it is simply added to the variation request at same time as the next type/ calibre of rifle you want to buy even multiples of rifles, at no extra cost, so you can and I do, apply for multiples at same time for 1 payment of £20.

This then gives time to source and purchase but that has to be done face to face with the LGS.

The variation form can take from 2 to 6 months to return but sometimes can be sooner.

Average is 2-3 months I'm led to believe but don't quote me on that please.

Cost is relative, so the better you want the more you pay. Though I have yet to find one that costs a $1000 US, that said I am now looking for a 5.5.6 Full Auto rated one so you never know.

Sorry for the duff post above.

Hope it is informative to some at some level.

Rob.

I have a couple "in jail" and hope they are released in a couple of months. I have been busy having 22 LR barrels threaded. Number 3 and 4 are at the smiths' now, ready to pick up this week. I have been shooting Aquila standard velocity for many, many years as IMHO in all my rimfires , it is the most accurate of the regular , not target ammo manufactured. I have already shot a few rounds thru the guns at the dealer's place with this stuff and am really excited about being able to shoot without hearing protectors. We are into "ringing steel" and its great to only hear the "ping" of the steel when you pull the trigger. I do not think they will even let us just purchase in the US without the stamp, that's a lot of free money for the US and I read that they have added quite a few to the ATF staff just to process all the applications. It is legal to hunt with them in over 40 states now. Was at the local smiths delivering a barrel and he handed me a 700 Remington in 308 and said, shoot at that steel plate downrange at the backer (100 yards). All I could hear was the "ping" of the steel and the sound of the click of the striker falling. He was using Trail Boss for the subsonic. This stuff appears addicting. Waiting on hunting season this fall, it will be blast.

hunting predators is the best, double coyotes a few times this past winter, they hear the shot, but after the first one goes down, the other is wondering "Hey George, no time to be sleeping now" so he can't associate where the shot came from, so he does not know where to run, so follow ups are easier. pretty cool actually. desert here so no squirrels or raccoons, etc but a lot of bunnies, coyotes, bobs, fox, etc. a quiet 15-22 does the job quite well:

Red jacket has full auto suppresors iirc.
Lots of companies have cans rated for FA...and for me, RJF is so far down the list of companies I'd recommend that it would never come up in a discussion (assuming you're talking about the one in the US that was on Sons of Guns).

I have a decent number of suppressors, and I'd say a majority (over 75%) of them are rated for full auto, whether they're rimfire, pistol or rifle. And I'm not sure if I can count the six I built myself into that category or not...as I can "rate" them for whatever I feel like. :D

The only two cans I have that are NOT rated "full auto" are my Warlock II and TacSol Cascade. All the rest of my cans, three of which are pictured above (Saker 556 on 11.5" AR, Spectre II on Walther P22 and Sparrow on 15-22) are so rated.

I can't afford to move on the "full auto" circles so I'll just pretend my guns go bbbbbbbbbbrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaaaaappppppppppp...

Yep. Two Warlocks that aren't, and a Titanium can on the 6.8 that's rated for limited FA.

Are you guys running your supressor wet or dry? I recently picked up a sparrow and while I like it, I find the 15-22 is my loudest host. (Bolt rifle being the quietest as expected, 10/22 still quieter than the 15-22) I think it is even louder on the 15-22 than a 1911-22 all with the same Cci sv ammo. But I haven't tried it with water or wire pull gel...
