This morning, I was watching the “Cheyenne” TV show. The episode was called “The Frightened Town”. Who do I see as a kinda tough cowboy type, none other than Max Baer, Jr., aka Jethro Bodine himself! I was very surprised! I watch a lot of old western shows including Cheyenne, but had never noticed him before. When he talked, he sounded nothing like Jethro! I have always thought it was interesting that many big name TV stars got their start in Western’s. Not that Baer, Jr. was a big star, but he was pretty famous nonetheless.

A lot of famous actors got their starts in those early television shows. I was watching an episode of Perry Mason from 1960, on FETV the other night, and there was none other than Robert Redford!

With 271 episodes a lot of regulars in TV series probably had a guest shot on Perry Mason.

Just being Ellie Mae's brother made him famous. That would make anyone famous! Personally, I'd rather be her boyfriend than brother...

Actually, he was her cousin, not her brother. The son of the cousin of her father (Cousin Pearl). That would make him either her second cousin, or possibly her first cousin once removed - relationships get a little confusing after first cousins. Either way, he was probably, legally, far enough "not related" that he could date her.

First cousins have at least one grandparent in common. A first cousin once removed is the child of a first cousin. Second cousins have at least one great-grandparent in common. And so on.

So, assuming Jed and Pearl are first cousins - and they don't necessarily have to be. They just referred to each other as cousin. But assuming they are first cousins, that would make Jethro Jed's first cousin once removed?

Therefore Ellie and Jethro would be second cousins?

All the character relationships are discussed in the Wikipedia article here. I got confused and quit before I got very far into the family tree. But it seems that indeed Jethro is Jed's first cousin once removed. And Ellie and Jethro are probably second cousins. I doubt I ever watched more than a handful of TBH episodes.

Recently saw Dennis Weaver in an old Dragnet.
He was a Firearms Ballistic Guy examining some bullets.
In another Dragnet, Lee Marvin allegedly broke the Law.

Today, while watching Cheyenne, I saw a very pretty young lady that I thought I recognized. Sure enough, it was Dawn Wells, Mary Ann from Gilligan’s Island.

My adolescent self fell in love with her in an episode of Maverick.
She was a complete smoke show all her life.
When I die, I look forward to meeting her in Heaven.
