The SV prefixes were late in the war, starting to ship in mid-January 1945 around the serial V 769,000. So your gun would have likely shipped within the month after that. If it has the US PROPERTY GHD stamping on the left topstrap, it almost certainly shipped to the Navy.

Victory Models with nearby serial numbers shipped to the Navy on January 31, 1945.

The fact that yours has the military finish, smooth military stocks and the swivel would tend to suggest that it was a Navy gun and it may have gone out in that January shipment. I agree with Absalom that markings on the top strap would be confirmation.

Keep in mind that even guns sent to the military during the war were not shipped in serial order. I own one only 1,000 numbers away from yours that shipped to a civilian distributor in March, 1946. Lots of them with higher numbers than mine are confirmed as having gone to the Navy. But mine is blued, has a plugged swivel hole, shipped with Magna stocks and has no top strap markings. Clearly it never went to war.

Thank you Absalom and JP@AK. It is so marked on the top strap. Appreciate your prompt and knowledgeable replies.
