Hey all,

Been a while but I find myself in the LGS right now. Has a 66 with serial number 2k520xx and on the left side frame below cylinder is a marking of "FHP 862". Barrel looks to be 4 inch
Any help on date and what the frame marking might be would be appreciated. LGS wants $900. Thoughts?

Catalog says it was born in 1971.
Does it have stainless sights?
That price seems a bit high to me.

looks like it dates to 1971. that would be a model 66 no dash. Florida Highway Patrol? $900 would be real high around here for a police trade in. don't know how many 66s you see in Hawaii though.

stainless rear sight is a good thing but $900. ouch. i would be interested at $500 but there are a lot of 66s around here. they are great guns.

Thanks for the help guys!! Yeah, I think his feelings got hurt a bit. I thought it was a consignment piece (has a 60 that is) so figured $ negotiable but he said he bought it about 8 mos ago. Did not ask how much but he said he saw in GB they were going for 1200-1300. Dunno, but I told him GB is not the best resource [emoji12]his shop is mostly Sigs (authorized dealer) so I gave him a revolver newbie pass, like me, but I got you guys as a resource [emoji1] gonna let him stew a bit before I go back. Thanks again!!

I don't know about prices in Hawaii, but here in the lower 48 that is about a $400 used gun.
I base that on the wear on the grips and the frame. It was probably a police gun, carried a lot and cleaned a little.

It was a Florida Highway Patrol issue in the early 70's. FHP replaced them with Colt Pythons as there was a problem with the stainless and heat produced by magnums. Is it still available?

As of the last time I was there, about a week, yes it was still for sale. Thanks for the info btw!

I think that's a load of horse hockey. From the looks of the muzzle and stocks that is most certainly a LE trade in and was most likely Florida Highway Patrol as someone else said. Those can be had all day long on GB and Armslist for around $500.

Bob,

I don't disagree with you...which is why I passed on the deal [emoji51]

An FHP 66 no dash with stainless sights recently sold in the Atlanta area for about $650, but it had my Hogues on it; I traded them for the original stocks, which had been painted to hide a poor repair job. I paid $400 for the revolver about 3 years ago. It has a 9K9xxx SN so is a bit later than that one. I couldn't get the walnut patch quite dark enough, but I think it looks better than with the Hogues.
