I just purchased a sheriff's office trade in 6906 and would like to change out the grip as it is really banged up. The gun itself is in good shape and will make a good carry weapon. Where can I get an exploded diagram of the 6906 and a new grip. Also a little help on removing the grip would be welcome.

Just noticed a piece of ceramic or plastic between the slide and the internal part of the decocking mechanism. Any one know what it is for? Looks like it will come out.Looks like it is just under the firing pin.

S&W will sell you a new grip for ~$18+ $5 S&H.

That white plastic piece is the ejector depressor(if you are describing what I think you are describing). It holds the ejector down when the magazine is out whihc activates the magazine safety.

To remove/replace the grips:

1. Make sure gun is unloaded and hammer fully forward. If not, unnecessary tension will be on the hammer spring.

2. Magazine out.

3. Push out the pin at the lower rear of the magwell.

4. Pull bottom of backstrap rearward.

Make sure you put the grips on before replacing the backstrap.

Thanks for all the help. Got the grip off easy and ordered new grip from S&W plus some other stuff form my M&Ps. Looking for them any day.

Got the grip today and went right on. Looks great. My son is coming for a visit with his family next week. He carries a Bersa Thunder 380 for protection but with the 380 ammo running low I know he doesn't train/shoot much. Going to try to trade him the 6906. With 9 mm ammo being more plentiful and I have a bunch, maybe he can shoot/train a little more on the range. He loves his 380. he might not trade. May have to give it to him.

S&W makes a neat little adapter for the M-59 magazines to fit the 6906. It matches the countour of those new grips.
