SW Model 22 a-1

Per the S&W website, both the 22A and the 22S have been discontinued. That's a shame for they were and are a great gun for the money. We owners can only hope that like a lot of Smith & Wesson handguns that were good but apparently didn't sell well enough to continue production, ours will appreciate in value significantly over the years to come.

Mine is the Talo edition pictured above with my other two S&W autoloaders. A couple of hardcore league shooters who shot it claimed it could hold its own in accuracy against "better" guns with just a little trigger work and some stocks that fit the hand better. Some of the 22A frames cracked but under its lifetime warranty, S&W has repaired them and I haven't heard of any repeat failures.

I purchased mine in August from a dealer who said he had sold it new a couple of years ago and it was traded in on a rifle. Supposedly it was "used very little" and looked like new. Later, when I realized the case had the production date on it the pistol was made in 2009. (New to buying guns). I have shot about 300 rounds thru it, cleaned regularly, and it started failure to eject problems and jamming. It was sent to S&W this week after talking to Customer service. I really like the pistol and hope they can fix it.

I better pick one up before they end up like the 622/422 series.

I never liked the way these guns looked, but I'm digging that talo edition.

I'm big into Rugers and colts in .22LR semi auto pistols, but wouldn't mind another type. My understanding is that these guns are quite good for the price.

I suppose the replacement is the Walther/unmarex pot metal M&P22? Yuck.

Talo

I picked up a Talo yesterday and shot it today. Very nice and accurate. I also have a Ruger Mklll which I also like. Get it you won't be disappointed.

Well, it looks to be fact. Smith & Wesson removed the 22A from the Rim fire page. All that's there now is the model 41.
I just last week purchased my 3rd one.
There super good Steel Challenge guns. I take a diamond file and smooth up the feed ramps. Follow that up with a good dose of mothers polish. Gobbles up ammo like a champ. Be extra careful NOT to dry fire them as it will mushroom the firing pin.
Mine are fixed up with red/green dot Reflex sights on the top rail.
The newest one get its first trip to the Range Saturday morning.

Ihave a 2206 with a red dot. Never gave me trouble. Shoots like a champ. Any info on this gunwould be appreciated

I have one, I like it
Let's face it tho, they aren't the best all round .22
They are only good for the money.
I have had lots of little problems with mine, and pretty much gave up on it.
Much better served with a MK II.

If you enter "22A" in the S&W website search field, you'll get a specifications page on the gun with the notation that it has been discontinued.

I just bought a brand new Talo edition from a dealer in MA. They have a couple more in stock. Beautiful gun. But mine does not have the caliber stamped on the barrel like Ed's does above. Otherwise looks exactly the same. What do folks make of that?
