SW1911 Thumb safety needed

I think you will like having only a left side safety. When I was competing in USPSA matches, some stages required left hand only shooting. I found that I could operate the safety well with the index finger of my left hand.

This reminds me of when I ordered my Colt XSE back about '05. It came with an ambi safety. During the very first range session, after I'd fired maybe 200rds, the L/side snapped apart and the top half of the 'lever' fell to the ground.

The broken edges looked like ypou'd commonly associate with the term 'pot metal'. I called Colt and complained (as a Colt armorer). The tech said that the ambi safeties weren't Colt-made parts, so they had no control over the quality, and were just cast stainless parts they bought from some vendor. I told the gentleman I didn't want an ambi setup anyway, and to just send me a standard Government thumb safety and I'd fit it myself.

In the meantime, I looked through a plastic tray of some Wilson Combat black and green finished thumb safeties we had, and found one that perfectly fit into my XSE without further filing (proper movement; no click indicating a 'scant safety' condition, etc) and used it. Once the Colt Gov Model thumb safety arrived I just put it in my parts drawers and kept using the black Wilson part.
