I say get the 5" full size, and then later get the commander. Hey I belive all collections need at least one full size 1911, regardless the make. Although the S&W is top notch, and you can't go wrong with it. I carry my fullsize in colder months, and the 1911PD in warmer times. A coat covers the 5" a little better. IMHO. Good luck.
