Who has one of these? I passed on a trade for one years ago and now for whatever reason am thinking of trying to acquire one.

Good? Average? Bad?

I don't have a SW1911Sc, but back in 2006 I bought a SW1911 (SS w/ tactical rail). It cost me $799 back then from a local gun store, which was quite a bit less expensive than the Colts and Kimbers. I shot this pistol in competition with both stock magazines and Chip McCormick 10-rd magazines, and never had a F2F or issue of any kind. It's completely stock, and right out of the box it out performed Kimbers and other high-end 1911s. Mine is SS so it's a little heavier than the Sc, but can still be easily carried with a proper holster and belt. I think that S&W makes excellent 1911s, and they don't get the credit that they deserve. You won't be disappointed if you decide to buy one that's new or gently used. Good hunting!

I currently have one I'm thinking of letting go. Put 100 rounds through it and it's flawless. It's as good as all the other 1911's I'm the market but it's clearly not getting all the attention it deserves. Go ahead and get one if you want.

I've owned one since about '05, one of the 5" stainless slide models (which was discontinued in favor of the blackened slide model). I bought it under the defunct armorer discount purchase program for less than $700. I bought it the same year I attended a Colt Model O Pistol armorer class and ordered a XSE Stainless Government from Colt, for approx the same cost.

The Colt had the L/side lever of the ambi thumb safety assembly snap off during the first range session (Colt told me it was a cast vendor-supplied part, when I called them about it :p).

The SW1911SC ran fine with every JHP I ever fed it, and it wasn't until a few years later I noticed the plunger tube had become loose at the rear staking. Rather than replace the tube myself, not wanting to risk damaging the (scandium alloyed) aluminum frame, I sent it back to S&W for repair. It's been fine since they replaced the assembly. I rather like the light weight. The fit and finish is visibly much better on the SW1911SC than the Colt XSE ... but then, that's typical Colt of earlier years. :D

I rather regret procrastinating and not picking up one of the Enhanced SC Models when I could still buy off-roster guns using my peace officer exemption, and S&W was still able to have them on the damned Roster.
