SW22 Victory mag dropping problem

Hi all,

Second time out at the range with my new Victory and the magazines were dropping by themselves, I was not anywhere near the release button. It would drop with rounds or even at the last round with an empty mag. The first outing I did have a slight issue as I inserted the mag it dropped slightly....I did insert them with a bit more force and they stayed in. And today I did the same, insert with force enough to close the slide. Any clues to what to adjust or does this have to go back home to Smith?

Try moving the plastic floor plate on the mags. Just use finger pressure. I bought three extra ones and none of them fit well until I adjusted the plates.

I do not see any way of adjusting the floor plates, they are all very tight and seem to fit well. I took off the the barrel and inserted the mags into the frame. They all click in fine and even if I tug on it, they are rock solid. When I fire the trigger with the empty mag in, it falls right out. The mag release button is not loose.

I have a Model 22A-1 and learned through experience that I have to push firmly on the magazines' bases - conveniently, right on the S&W logo - for them to seat fully. Perhaps the Victory magazines fit in a similar manner?

That's very odd. One thing I like about my Victory is the way the magazine inserts and locks in solidly and ejects freely. I would think that something is indeed wrong with your gun.

Has anyone else tried using it with the same "mag dropping" results?

I called Smith and they sent me a Fedx return label they said it was approximately a month wait for repair ......not too happy about that

Well my new gun is finally being shipped....but I was told that it is sitting in the warehouse, the Fedx truck was too full to take my package....and they could not determine when it would get in the truck....if they fill their truck, why not send more or larger trucks to ship the finished guns?

Wow. Thats insane. Cant send your gun because we didnt have room for a small box on our truck. Sound ridiculos to me.
My Victory went back twice, though not for a magazine issue. Each trip took 3 weeks. Hoping you get the gun back real soon.

2 new Victory mags dont seat without force

I just received two new mags for my SW Victory. Both do not seat well. I have to hit them hard (hand or finger pressure does not work). I have not run rounds through them yet.

My existing Victory Magazines that I have from when I purchased the pistols about 3 months ago work great.

I called SW and they said that they test every magazine that they ship. Really, then my pistol has an issue, but wait, there are NO issues with the original 2 magazines I have. They did not even want me to return them directly to them to see if there is actually an issue. They could have had a bad manufacturing run. I do not think SW has good QA. They have a manufacturing issue.

It also sounds like they have a few bugs to work out with the Victory, including the barrel screw (everyone knows about that one). It comes loose. Using thread lock is NOT the proper solution. SW just need to put out a fix (even if it is sending out a new screw with lock washer or something else).

I do like the pistol though.

Had a new SW22 Victory that would drop mag every time you pulled and released charger to load a shell or if gun tried to recycle after firing a shot. Thought problem was the gun or the mag. Neither was the problem. It was the ammo. Was using 40 grain Winchester. Tried another brand. Same results. Dropped to a 30 grain bullet and problem solved. My Victory cannot handle a 40 grain bullet. I believe it has a slightly longer nose. Not sure yet if it can handle a 36 or 38 grain. So if you have a mag problem try dropping to a 30 grain.

pdrummer I suggest to you to put a No.61 O-ring on the barrel screw and torque to around 40 inch lbs. You can buy these rubber o-rings at virtually any hardware store for a very cheap price. That won't come loose on you at the range anymore unless you tear it down on purpose.

I was using Vibra-Tite VC3 thread locker and it worked great, I have recently switched to a viton o-ring and it seems to be holding up nice and tight.

May suggest you start another thread about your gun? This thread is about magazines and I suspect you have other issues going on. Your own thread will get more responses for this particular problem.
You should not be limited to light bullets.

Mag on Victory

My post was about mags. I had same problems listed on previous posts regarding mags falling out without touching release button. I have found that everything functions if you drop bullet grain weight down to 36 grains. Mag problem of dropping out was solved. The use of a Winchester 40 grain round was not allowing mag to properly lock into place upon vibration from firing or loading a round. Mag holds solidly in place with a 36 gr round. But drops out with a 40gr.

Hey 1st time here I my friend have your solution. I bought my Performance Center Victory 2 weeks ago. I like you kept dropping mags. I figured out that if you remove the knob your thumb will be clear of the monster button. Mine fits beautifully in my hand and I will not bump it during recoil. I'm going to the range tomorrow to see if this solves this issue. I'm pretty confident it will. This will keep your gun in your hand. Instead on S&W repair shop.

I put a set of thumb rest grips on mine which definitely keeps my thumb away from the magazine release button. I'm guessing Smith & Wesson has had a number of issues like this before and they will make changes to alleviate your issue. This might be replacing your magazine release button, or spring, or even the polymer grip frame. I know a person hates to have to return a gun and not have it for awhile, but that might be your best option. JMHO.
