I have a Ruger LCP that I am wanting to trade. I listed it on several sites, and got an offer for a NIB 40VE. Is this a good trade? I looked on other sites and found alot of bad talk about the 40VE, but this was on some gun specific sites and wanted to see what you all thought.

I have a Ruger LCP that I am wanting to trade. I listed it on several sites, and got an offer for a NIB 40VE. Is this a good trade? I looked on other sites and found alot of bad talk about the 40VE, but this was on some gun specific sites and wanted to see what you all thought.
It is much larger pistol than the LCP and rides better in an OWB than tucked away. The VE series Sigmas are rugged and reliable basic defense guns, and much of the trouble comes from people trying to "improve" them. They are not well suited for modification or enhancement. The trigger pull is long and hard but improves with use. Trying to modify it to lighten the trigger pull reduces reliability.
I use them for trainers because they are about as simple to use and reliable as it gets.
Price depends on location, usually $300 to $350 new around here. There is a S&W $50 rebate on new purchases now.

I know it is bigger, that is kind of what I am looking for. I was just worried about reliability and durability. The one offered for trade comes w/ 4 Hicap mags.
To be honest, I do not feel comfortable with the LCP. I had problems with FTF at first and had to get a new barrel for it. Then they did the recall. I got them to send me a new LCP instead of fixing the old one. Now I just don't know about it. I like the feel of the sigmas, but have never shot one. When I looked up some info on them it just made me nervous that I would be getting one problem for another.
I know I am giving up the smallness of the LCP, but I have a Ruger SP101 for CCW.

I love my 40VE. It has far exceeded all my expectations for what I paid for it.

Concur...the best price I've seen on a used Sigma VE with one magazine was $200.00.

Mechanically nothing. They're both enhanced Sigmas with the 4 inch barrel and accessory rail. However the G is an earlier model with a green frame and melonite finished slide and barrel wheras the VE has a black frame and stainless slide and barrel.

The ve series sigmas are uber reliable. the f series, from what i understand, were problematic. MOST of the time, the negative feedback comes from someone with experience with the f models, not the enhanced ve offerings. I was almost deterred from buying my 9ve, until I found this forum, and found people that know what they are talking about.

I got my SW40VE to around 7.5# trigger pull, without changing the striker spring to a 3.5# Wolff spring (Not recommended) and it eats anything I feed it and shoots accurately.
I do prefer its S&W stablemate, the M&P 40, but that is a different gun at a different price.

Dang it fellas, your praise of the 40VE has got to me. I have only recieved offers for Bersa 380s, and I want a more powerful round so I contacted the guy with the 40VE and asked him if he still wanted the trade. So, it looks like I will have one tomorrow. NIB w/ 4 14rnd mags.
I guess it is a good trade since I got the LCP for $205. Plus about 30.00 in holsters I am going to throw in. The 4 LCP mags were from Ruger because of the issues I had with the first one. This LCP is NIB, but I just do not trust it even though Ruger sent me a new one. Plus with our new Pres. I figure I better get a Hi cap while I still can, but do not have the cash to buy one right now. So it is a win/win for me.

I don't have any problems with my 40VE.
I did have to do a little fine tuning of the
sear/striker surfaces to cure a minor problem,
but since I did that, mine has been working
great. Sure, it has a stiff trigger, but I
don't have a real problem with that. I can still
shoot it fairly straight, even one handed, and
I feel it makes the pistol a bit safer than a
low # trigger. It's a defense pistol, not a
target model.
So far when shooting it, I've never had a
glitch. No fail to fires, no eject problems.
Nada.. So I'm a fairly happy camper. And the
.40 S&W is a fairly stout dose of medicine, even
if some call it "short and weak".. It ain't
weak if you compare it to a 9mm.
And with the right load, it can jump on up to
.45 ACP territory as far as the Taylor knockout
score.
BTW, the more I fire mine, the easier the
trigger seems to get. It's to the point now
that it's basically a non issue.
