SW40VE front sight replacement

thanks to all who have posted, I am going to order the HiViz sights soon and try to mod my sigma. All your posts have helped me in dialing in my gun. Out of the box at 15 yards it was shooting 8 inches low and about 6 inches right. I thought ther was no adjustment to be made in the rear sight being "fixed" and have have through countless rounds trying to figure out what I was doing wrong.

Don't know how much you've read on this so far. But a couple of things that you didn't mention. If you're fireing light bullets like 165s etc, they will shoot to a different POA/POI than the 180's that the Sigma sights are regulated for. Also the sights are set to cover the target, not lollipop like we were all taught. The windage problem is something else altogether. Check out the correcting target here to see if that gives you any perspective on what's happening. Can't get to my copy but here's one on the net. Correction Target

Edit to add, sorry, forgot to say welcome to the forum.

My Sigma shoots on the button to 50 yards with 165's... and here's another correction target, which is probably as useful as any of them.

I am goingto order a high viz front sight tonight for my 9ve, I would also like to change the rear. Has anyone come up with a good aftermarket rear sight mod?

Any chance you would have an item number for the Pac rear sight? Been looking and haven't been able to come up with anything.

sorry,no. got it off ebay after someone posted on this site, seeing it there. tried looking up my invoice but it was too old. try contacting Pachmayr.

My SW40VE was shooting very low out of the box. Thanks to all in this thread so far that documented this process, but especially to Ray1970. There have been some great pics so far, but I thought a few more wouldn't hurt.

Taped off the front of the slide to be sure not to mark it. In hindsight, it came off so easily it probably isn't needed, but it's cheap insurance.

A pair of pliers and just a little pressure and the original front sight is off.

Inside the slide:

Some careful filing with some small files and test fitting. Once it's fitted up, I used a small drop of blue Loctite and a 3/16" nut driver.

It certainly looks better, and hopefully I get some time at the range soon to see if it helped the low shot placement.

I guess it may look a bit like a bubble level. This sight is designed for a Glock, but with a little filing, works just fine on the Sigma. They ship from the factory only with the white dot sight.

Hello To All,
I am new to this site and this Forum. I was searching the internet for sights for my SW40EV and ran across this forum. Just want to let you all know that I have order the sight and will be adding it to the gun as soon as i get it. Thank you all for the great, detailed information and helping me resolve my "down and left" shooting. I will let you all know how it worked out. Will also add photos of the targets once completed. No need in adding how to pictures since there are a few of them here already.
Thanks again.

Ok, I am hooled and ready to do this mod. One question to everyone here. With the sights that you have chosen can you tell me how your grouping has chaged? Are you dead center, high, low, etc? I did notice with my Sigma 40VE that again it shoots low, like 3-4" low from center of target and from reading it is because the way the sighting system is designed to cover the target vs. lolipop the target like we've all been trained. Thanks. Please reply with sights used, ie. glock model #, and grouping.

J SW40VE and other shooting low left, please research "low left" before modifying your Sigma. This applies to the new owners, I know the sigma nuts know what they are doing.

Thanks... will do.

Thanks Ray1970 for the Heads up on the New Sight I can put on my Sigma. The only ?? I have is will 1 of the Sure Sites fit on a Sigma since they only fit the M&P for S&W. They make them for Sig, Springfield and Glock as well. Y'all can go to their site if they interest U at SureSight , They look like a great site system for anyone, and since the Glock site worked out for your Sigma was really hoping 1 of Sure Sites Glock sights would work on mine.

seems like the Glock Front sight only for the Sigmas. Mepro has f/r for the Sigma.

I'm going to try out a red laser. that means I can focus on the BG
with the red dot shining in the eye.

Actually you can probably just take it off bare handed. Push it off with your thumb probably. All I know is mine came off easily enough when I dropped the gun. Oops, it happens. Thank goodness for that inertial striker block spring cause it hit literally a brick wall.

I have no idea where or when my front sight went AWOL...picked it up off the bedside table and did my morning check on it and no front sight! Called S&W to ask about having a replacement sent since it's such a small part and they told me no, that the slide would have to be sent it as it's "sonic welded" on...I asked them if that was a fancy term for "melted" and the guy got downright uptight with me! I said no thanks, not gonna send it in, I'm just gonna buy a Glock front sight for it and ended the call.
