As a Springfield MA police officer, I carried the SW99 QA for about 3 years or so till they changed us to the M&P. Luckily, I was able to pick up a NIB Springfield Police Trade-in with two 12-round mags. This gun was kept in our supply office until it was given back to S&W and sold. I wanted to buy the gun I carried but when I found this, I couldn't pass it up. Most have one side all scratched up from scraping on the cruiser getting into the driver's side for a righty. Mine had a few scratches.
I had a fire at my house, but I saved all my guns. Unfortunately, I have lost track of the magazines. The guns and, I thought, all my mags were stored for a year at my gunsmith's workshop. I got back everything but the mags for this one gun. I have been looking everywhere online for magazines for this gun.
Now I'm asking for some help. Does anyone have any magazines for this gun, or know of a place i can get them?
Respectfully,
Ken/greatgazoo

A couple of North Carolina police departments carried the SW99s. I liked the updated QA (quick action trigger) they came out with on the 99 and 990L.

I almost bought a SW99 QA on GB, but spotted and bid a nice Walther PPQ. I won the PPQ, so I let the bidding advance on the SW99 QA and another bidder brought it home.

I consider S&W and Walther as kissing cousins, and have a couple of Walther PPSs too.

Questions for the Great Gazoo !!

I have so many questions for you Great Gazoo !! First of all, thank you to you and your LE Brothers for your service in our Commonwealth the original home of Smith and Wesson, Springfield, MA and more importantly, the BIRTHPLACE OF AMERICAN LIBERTY.

How was your overall experience carrying the SW99 as a duty pistol and what did your dept migrate from?
Did your dept. Examine pros and cons of using the .40 vs 9MM ?
Have you thought of converting your pistol to 9MM?
Did you find the Mags you were looking for, and curious if Walther P99 mags fit in the SW99?

I know by experience that SW99 supports both .40 and 9 mm, with a barrel and magazine swap. Would you consider having both Calibers?

Thanks in advance for your reply and sharing your experience! 3GF

Hey Ken, thanks for your service and Welcome to the Forum!

1. If you put an ad in the Forum's Want To Buy section you may get a bite.
2. Look online for gun shows within a reasonable driving distance.
3. Check if your old colleagues have a few they're willing to part with.
4. Check the shop the gun came from; often when buying LEO trade-ins from the factory they also get spare magazines.
5. Gunbroker!

Best wishes in your endeavor.

Todd

I bought one of these as a police trade in over 10 years ago. I like it and find it accurate and easy to load for. Mine came with two 12 rd magazines and a 10 rd.

To 3 grnfriend, I own a CZ 75 9mm and far prefer the system to the 99. I am not much of a barrel and mag swapper yet have Ruger Bh's in 357/9mm and 45 Colt/Acp. I also have a 610-3 with moon clips for 10 mm and 40, so I see it as an advantage in revolvers.

Walther P99's will use SW99 magazines, so I would think that it only stands to reason that the opposite is true. Walther did make the frames for the SW99.

Hello Crow !! I have shot the cz shadow 9 with a dot on it and couldn't miss. Felt good in my hand. I am looking for a CZ and or clone (Bunch of good ones), as well as a Hi Power or clone...I like the idea of forged as opposed to cast (as the FNs are) which are SA35 or EAA/Tanfoglio/Girsan which are all forged Steel and milled as the witness models are...

When I bought my SW99 it was LNIB with all the goodies, it was a 9mm but when I was at the Store, under the foam was a .40 cal barrel. It also came with 2 9 mm mags and 3 .40 cal mags...was a score at $425.00. It was my first .40 cal and that broke the cherry as now I have many SW .40 cal models. Shoots great with both calibers and I am glad to have this transitional polymer piece (precursor to the M&P line) with the Walther marked lower and SW Slides. It's the american version of the James Bond p99...love it !! 3GF
