Swapping out cylinders

Besides the obvious question "Why do you want to swap out cylinders?", you need to understand that cylinders are not normally drop-in replacements. They have to be fitted to the specific frame.

The new cylinder has to fit the crane arbor with minimum endshake.

The barrel-to-cylinder gap and the cartridge case-to-recoil shield dimension has to be within specifications.

The ejector ratchet has to time correctly with the hand and the action has to cycle correctly with chambers aligned with barrel bore, with bolt stop dropping into locking notches before hammer fall.

In short, unless you are EXTREMELY lucky, or you have the tools, skill, and ability to the replacement cylinder, it will NOT do all of these things without fitting.

the original must have been scraped or road rash and
I wanted a better looking cylinder. How much are we talking about fitting a new one?
