My computer starts to create more and more error-messages and blue screens. My sweet wife recommended to buy a new PC together. But she wants finally a flatscreen-monitor.

I checked the prices and equipements and at the end we bought a 23 inch Samsung wich got a very good test-report and a medium-fast Intel-Quad computer with all bells and whistles for under US$ 880.--.

I will reuse the Windows XP Home Edition. With all data-transfer it costs me 8 hours of hacking, updating Windows XP, swearing, calling a IT-buddy in my desperation, confessing to Swisswife that the e-mails from the last two days are now in Nirvana..... and so on.

.
Then goes the wireless keyboard and mouse over the Jordan, and I must organize another one...

So I will learn from this story... NEVER BUY ANOTHER PC WITHOUT AN INSTALLED OPERATING SYSTEM AGAIN...NEVER.

I did, my computer crashed one day after the warranty expired and HP refused to help me fix the problem... I re-installed my old WinXP - Thanks HP

Ever wonder why you never hear a Mac user post these types of stories?

For the same money, you could have had a Mac and not had these issues.

And I was upset because my ISP quit supporting dialup so I had to get a new ISP and Email address. Swissman, you have my sympathy.

Too bad computers and software aren't made like Swiss watches!

Pete,
I had a similar situation with HP. Mine crashed one week after the warranty ran out. They wouldn't do a thing to help! I had to pay someone to repair it. (Video board burned up)

I'll never, ever buy another HP product..

Same here - It cost me big bucks to have my system cleaned-up and re-install my old WinXP. Experience is expensive!

I have both Mac osx and PC in 98,xp, and vista.
I must have carried over my pc technique on the apple, as I must be the only person on the planet to crash a mac. I like the osx anyway.

One word.. three letters: MAC

I've been using a Mac for my internet use for a few years now and love it. My off line work is done on a PC, but since it never goes online.. NO virus issues.

I'm baaaack! ...and all seems to run OK. The biggest benefit is the TFT monitor, which gives me so much better pictures. What makes me really wonder is... how do they name that thing flat-screen?? I look right now at a picture of Pamela Anderson and THAT looks defenitly NOT flat.

You should be given an award for crashing a Mac, not a easy thing to do.

Go into the Mac forums on the apple website. It's not as uncommon as most people think. They are still a lot more stable thsan a pc. I never had the power pc mac, just the intel. Could that possibly have something to do with it?

Come to think of it, I have an old hp 386 laptop running 3.1/dos5. Still works. I was surfing the net with that machine before most people ever knew anything about it. That was in the days when computers were fun.
