Switching cylinder release thumb latch

For my regular shooters, I prefer the newer style of thumb latch to the old ones. So I would like to order a few new ones, and switch them (storing the original ones in a safe place of course). Has anyone ever tried this, and are both types fully exchangable ? I am thinking for example on a 1991 617 or 1993 66.

I don't know exactly whether there is something preventing the use of the later model release? But, the two sources I'm linking will at least get you started towards the answer to your question. If the answer you need isn't available, you may wish to search the sites for customer service links.

I have done it plenty of times, NO PROBLEMS.

I have extended cylinder releases on all my hand guns, never had a problem..

If you like the newer style, check out the ones made by SDM. They are made of real steel and very sharply checkered.

Brownell's is most definitely a source for anything like the new latch-slides.
