:D :D :D -- the bacon flowchart had me howling with laughter. Wifey thought it was an artistic masterpiece.

Keep up the good work.

Chris

Glad to know about Yoder's canned bacon and the other canned stuff at MRE Depot. Last I looked for canned bacon, a few years ago, I couldn't find it available CONUS. It was a staple of backcountry Ontario canoe trips in my youth. I'll be ordering some.

Yeah, years ago canned bacon was fairly common. You could find it on supermarket shelves. The bacon back then was uncooked though.

Yoder's bacon has gotten good taste reviews from a few different sources I've read. I bought 2 cans about a year ago, but I've yet to try them. We're going camping in another week. I think I'll take a can along and finally give it a try.

Tactical bacon is so limited. When's someone gonna come out with strategic bacon?

They first marketed this as-

Assault Bacon

It didn't work.
California required registration after a 10 day waiting period.
Cans were limited to 10 strips or less.
Cans had to survive a 6 foot drop test without denting.
:D

Yeah Lee,
But just think of all the cholesterol Californian's protected themselves from, by outlawing it! Perhaps something in Tofu, marinaded in liquid smoke? I've seen that stuff after being deep fried! You could launch it out of a 155 R/R without damaging it. So the drop test wouldn't faze it after the heat treating?

Sodium Phosphates, Sodium Erythorbate, Sodium Nitrite

now thats mmm mmm good !

i usually try to get trader joes no nitrite apple smoked thick sliced bacon. if you have TJ's near you, try it out, doenst keep as long cuz it has not as many preservitives.

Somewhat off topic, but did you know that Lay's makes ham flavored chips? I can't find a link but they're marketed in Europe (largely Spain) and I've had them, not bad at all.

When I was a kid during WWII, you couldn't get bacon; it was rationed, and only servicemen could get it readily. My uncle was a Lt. in the Army Corps of Engineers, and he made a special point of sending us tin-packed bacon for Christmas during the war years. We relished it, and that was the ORIGINAL tactical bacon! To this day, I consider crisp bacon as a really great treat.

Loved the bacon flow-chart!

What about pre-cooked 'microwave bacon'? If your going camping, it's lighter then canned, needs no refridgeration. (till opened) And you can for sure get a whole lot more for $15.99 then 9 oz!

But maybe I'm just a cheapskate. Altho I say "I'm noot cheap laddie, I'm thrifty"!
