Brand new M&P 9c, the take down lever does not come down easily. It takes a lot force, and then it will go,(used a pen, and the corner of my desk). It looks like it's hitting the slide, not allowing it to come down easily. Anyone else have this issue? Any easy fixes? Do I need to send it to S&W for a once-over? Help!

Most of the S&W take down levers are pretty stiff. Take it apart and clean all the factory gunk out of it real good, and then shoot it a bit. It will get easier once its been used some

Don't force it. Take the gun to the shop you bought it from and see what they say.

My 9c take down lever has always been smooth and easy to move from one position to another. My pistol has been taken down 6-8 times and is less than a year old.

They said it would break in. I am skeptical now. It doesn't look to be flush with the slide, I'll take some photos tonight.

Hopefully your lever is just stiff...

I purchased a new M&P 40 last week, my first pistol. I also had to use the back end of a Bic pen to rotate the lever down... never thought it would move. I was afraid I would break something, but once it started to move it kept on going. I didn't have ammo yet, so I had a few days to work with the 40. The first 10 times (or so) I needed the pen, then I could barely rotate it down with my fingernail. Over the next week I field stripped it 10-20 more times. Now it's just stiff with my finger nail.

My lever stays within the cut-out on the slide when rotating. Probably 1mm clearance during the rotation. The lever is closest to the slide is when fully rotated.

The lever definitely needs to be aligned with the cut-out on the slide.

(Don't know how my FS 40 compares to your gun.)

I stripped the gun down, cleaned some stuff on it, played with the take down lever, and put it back together. Dry fired it a bunch, and the TDL started to feel better, but still stiffer than Dirk Diggler. Hopefully it'll loosen up after I shoot it this weekend.

Don't complain, mine was that way too. Now when you flip the TDL down it won't stay down, makes it hard to get the slide off.
