Fortunately, I was VERY careful when removing this screw and then replacing it after looking for a serial number under the rear sight. Incidentally, based on the size of this screw, FWIW, there's not a whole heck of a lot affixing this rear sight to the revolver. But what if I had to post a rather dopey thread today, saying aforementioned screw went flying into the air into oblivion, are replacements available? And how are such microscopic screws even manufactured?

Photographs depict the screw and then in place doing its job affixing the sight to the revolver, and also a few photographs of the serial number under the sight. The scratch in the second photograph from a screwdriver was thankfully created by a previous owner and I'm not to blame for it.

It would be nice if a member could tell us what this screw size is. OR the screw sizes for the pre war sight screws are. I have a large McMaster Carr?
catalog book that may have the correct size screws listed.. I think this large volume book has about everything in it 😁😉

I THINK (but do not know) the size is 0 X whatever. I also THINK (but do not know) this size may be found at the ACE Hardware stores which stock GUN SCREWS-----as in: Not all ACE stores stock gun screws.

The closest one to me WAS in Kingston (55 miles +/-)----was gone the last time I was there. The good news is I will be in Kingston this month (supposedly) to take delivery of a new car, and I'll see what I can learn about their whereabouts. In the meantime, I'll see what I can learn about a source for information about which stores stock them. It stands to reason (in my blissful ignorance) that they come from ACE central---world headquarters; and if that's the case, they know where they ship them. I may be able to accomplish this tomorrow.

As an aside, those I've bought are all the same length (1" +/-), and the heads are too large, requiring a bit of whittling for our purposes.

Stand by-----or head out on your own recon mission.

The only news is there is no news until I get to Kingston--which should be sooner rather than later. Once there, I have two addresses for likely suspects. If you're a hunch player, I have a hunch one of them is the new location for gun screws.

Ralph when you find an Ace with a gun screw selection, they will also have a small plate with a bunch of screw holes in it of different sizes all stamped with the size. I think about $5. Really handy for figuring out what size a small screw is' Plus, you can turn a screw in it and once tight use it to hold on the screw while you trim it to length, adjust the head profile or whatever. I keep a couple in my gun tool box

If you find an assortment of those type sight screws..
Whatever they are$ pu some for me..you can mail'em to me and I'll cover whatever ya need for the help.
We dont have an ACE here or anything close to one
w a small screw assortment..
Thanks Randy !

Okay----screws revisited:

The quasi good news is I found the ACE Hardware that had gun screws---and moved---and they still have gun screws. The not so good news is they don't have nearly the inventory they had before. The screws come from Hillman in Cincinnati. It may be Hillman can put you on to retailers who stock gun screws in your area.

Now, the steel plate with a bunch of holes in it mentioned by "steelslaver" turned out to be a "Screw Thread Gauge". Based on the assortment I saw back when, I figured to be looking at 3X5" or 5X8" piece of steel with a BUNCH of holes in it. The folks at ACE told me they didn't have any such thing, but I found two of them anyway---1 1/8" X 3 1/2" X 1/4" with 9 holes in it-------4-40, 4-48, 5-40, 6-32, 6-40, 6-48 8-32, 8-36, and 8-40. I brought both of them home if anybody's interested.

The 6's and 8's comprised the bulk of their remaining inventory with a smattering of 0's, 1's, 2's, 3's, 4's and 5's. Three different head styles--slotted/torque/allen. My bottom line is get a hold of Hillman, and see what shakes loose. Worst case is they're terrified of any and everything that has anything to do with guns.

AND-------if anybody has a NM #3 with target sights, and a pre-war HE target, my best recollection (which leaks like a sieve when it comes to stuff like this) is the retaining plate screws on the NM #3 sight are the same size (maybe some shorter) as the screw that holds the sight on the pre-war HE target----0 something-------and maybe----just maybe we can answer mrcvs' and fleabus' question---------if that same anybody has a thread gauge for tiny screws with a bunch of threads. The Kingston ACE had some 0-80 X 1/2 and some 1-72 X 1/2----------so??????
