tatoo`s and welfare

One thing I don't like about the whole welfare and other assistance programs, is that they penalize those who are trying to get off and reward those who just sponge off the system.

My wife's family was on welfare when she was just getting old enough to work and she ended up having to give her family her whole paycheck because they cut their benefits by the amount she was getting. Not a good way to get teenagers the ability to save for college and get out of the welfare trap.

One of the ladies from a local church benevolent committee recently called me to ask about a couple who had applied for assistance "to help pay the power bill." I asked her how much they wanted and she told me $200.00. I know the couple and have dealt with them often. When I told the church lady the woman had just paid $200.00 for a new tatoo she told me they weren't going to give them anything.

Charlie this is the reason I didn't want to be a LEO. You have to deal with so many sorry people. Heck I have to deal with to many and I am retired. Now I would like the doughnut part. :D Don

I guess it all depends on the individual. Last year I hired a fella to help out during harvest. When I hired him he was wearing a long sleeve shirt. When he showed up for work he was in jeans and a shirt with the sleeves cut to the shoulders. Both arms were covered with tattoos. He looked like a painting. I thought, what have I gotten myself into? Turned out the guy worked harder than anyone on the place, always on time, never a harsh word and never complained. I no longer judge people by what's painted on their flesh.

My favorites are the wimmin with the man's name prominantly displayed in 3" Old English letters across their chests.
Now what get's me REALLY mad are unwed tatoo'ed pitbulls. :D

I haven't read a post in the thread where anyone is judging anyone for having tattoos.

the ink isnt the point. its sound to me like your guy earned his through hard work. Not my thing but I have to respect that earning part.
this stuff costs to have it done .. welfare proceeds funding it is more than a little offensive. We'd much rather see the excess spent on a full race custom 1911 as it does have practical use somewhere in the purchase.

The California electronic benefit cards have also been used on cruise ships !!!

A prerequisite for receiving any form of welfare/public assistance should be successfully passing a drug screening.

And to think...........most of us must submit to drug tests before we can get a job.

And yet another gripe to throw into the pot...
I work hard everyday, earn a good wage and pay big dollars for horrible health care. One that dictates how I get medical treatment and what drugs my doctors can prescribe. Welfare recipients receive free health care and no formulary for prescribed meds.
My question is.... If we all can plainly see all the problems and have several good suggestions on how to fix the system, or make it more responsible, why can't our elected officials?

This is also the time of year for the annual "wealth redistribution" ie: people with no taxable income receiving an IRS "refund" of several thousand dollars. Ink, large screen TV's and iphones lead the list...

Howdy Merril,
They showcased a program on Channel 4 news not long ago where welfare people are issued a cash card.A credit card like card they don't have to pay back. They claim that in Illinois and Missouri there was 14 million dollars of unsupervised spending on these cards.
Channel 4 reporters tracked down people who were buying smokes, booze and using the cards at strip joints and casinos.
They took this information to the lady that heads this program in the St. Louis area and her explanation is "Poor people have every right to make poor decisions like the rest of us".
Go figure?
It can be frustrating.
Thanks
Mike
Is it any wonder that the economy is in the sewer? It makes me feel guilty for being retired. This is not the America I grew up in.No responsibility,no morals,no work ethic. And the number is growing.
I had 27 years in law enforcement,10 more as a senior dispatcher at 911,worked two jobs always, and three most of the time when possible, had a working wife and raised 7 kids.
I don't regret a minute of it,but honestly I think society in general is too far gone to ever go back to what we once were.
I hate to be a pessimist, but mine eyes have seen first hand the condition that we are in. Thank God,this world is not my home.

My job had "on call" drug tests. You'd come into work and the boss would tell you that you had to report for your drug test. Supposedly the computer would pick name at random. You turn up dirty and its two weeks at some hospital then 4 weeks at a rehab facility. Reason for the drug tests?, our facility had pipelines that we were responsible for and the tests were DOT mandated. Frank

Add the number of tatoos to the number of missing teeth = IQ

I've got four tats, and two teeth... I'll guarantee neither of those are relevant to my intelligence...:p

Now, TWO ex-wives might be...:(

And in case anyone's wondering, it's TATTOO's...

Also, how do you know that he paid anything for that ink? I have a friend who was at the time just getting started in doing tats, had his license but hadn't hooked up with a shop yet. He "gave" the wife and I free tats as a wedding present, I think I paid him $30 for the tribal lions head on my right shoulder, and he did a coverup of a badly faded "Basic Training" tat for free just to have the practice. Just no telling...

I bought guns and ammo with a lot of our "refund".:D:D

I hear ya'

An an Illustrated Man, it's all I can do to stop myself for saying something (like - buzz off !- except for the "buzz" part) that might get me benched.

Back to the welfare thing. Our government as a way of allowing all sorts of creature comforts to the "less fortunate" and the only way to stop it is one case at a time with solid evidence. Those tats could have been in exchange for labor (okay, it could happen!), auto repair or something equally benign. Without evidence to the contrary, it's hearsay.
