Why do you think that just because it's a Taurus that it will fail?
In the 80's I had a 66 in .357. Put several thousand rounds of .38 and .357 without so much as a hiccup!
I do recommend taking the sideplate screws out and treat with a little blue Loctite and put right back in.

Good Find! I'd pay that in a New York minute! I've had nothing but good luck with the 3 or 4 Taurus (what the heck is plural for Taurus's, Tauruses, Tauri??). Still have a couple, one revolver in 44 special and a plastic 9mm G2. Both shoot great and no failures.

Oh boy, be prepared for the influx of posts filled with all sorts of stories of how Taurus failed them or someone else they know. One of these days I should honestly make a BINGO Board comprised of generic cautionary tales of Taurus firearms failing, because I've heard so many over the years that I have more than enough material to work with, but here are just a few of my favorites...

- My friend's father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate owned one and it broke into pieces the first time he took it out to the range!
- My local range rents these out and sometimes after a nondisclosed amount to time of being shot the parts wear out!
- One time I or someone I know had to send one in for service or repair, and it took a really long time, you'd think they were shipping them out to Brazil and back or something!
- I've heard from the guys behind the counter at my LGS that they get Taurus' firearms returned all the time!
- I've read bad things about them online, so it must be true!

For every Taurus bashing story out there, there is a Colt, S&W, Ruger, Beretta, etc that failed too. Every company that manufacturers a machine of some kind will sell a lemon or one that breaks. Me? I will continue to enjoy shooting my bargain Taurus that goes bang when I pull the trigger, puts bullets where I aim, and cost me about as much as a good meal in a good restaurant.

Go buy a boxcar-load of .38 ammo and start shooting it. Be sure to leave instructions for the Executor of your estate to let us know how many rounds are left after you've passed, many years from now.

I also neglected to mention that I have first-hand experience with a total of five Taurus brand firearms between my family and I within our household.
All of which have proven 100% reliable. The closest thing I've ever experienced to a failure was ammo-related, in which some cheap Winchester Super X .410 2.5" shells proved to be just long enough when fired for to lock up the cylinder of my brother's Judge. However, upon trying them in my Judge Magnum with a 3" chambered cylinder, they worked just fine. No biggie though, seeing as said shells were never purchased for defensive use, and the specialty . 410 Handgun loads functioned just fine.

$145 back in 1979, has gone bang every single time I have pulled the trigger since.
And my $235 Taurus G2 9mm truck gun has done the same thing since purchasing, regardless of what ammo run through it.
According to my gunsmith, who has a coupla safes full of collected Smith's, the new Taurus plant in Georgia is putting out handguns he'll stack up for reliability against anyone's.
