Taurus revolver question

I own more than a few Ruger, S&W and Colt revolvers. About three weeks ago I was able to buy a lightly used Taurus Model 82 (38 Spl. stainless steel, 4" heavy bl) for $250. Got it as a plinker. I have a large amount of plain jane 38 special cartridges and I kind of liked the look of the Taurus. It's a good shooter and I really like the trigger on the revolver. I also like the Taurus rubber grips that came with it. I'm familiar with all the stories about Taurus QC being spotty, but as another poster pointed out I've owned Rugers and Smiths that also had "issues".

Wait,,, you believe in the lifetime warranty that Taurus advertises? Oh boy do i have some nice swamp land you should buy real cheap from me. Hey, i just remember i have a bridge in can sell you too.

**** man, anyone believing the taurus lifetime policy makes Barnum blush when he said his "sucker born every minute" speech.

Its a lie, pure and simple. Go over ot the tuarus forum site and READ..

For taurus support, if you subsitute the word "month" when they say "week", you will be in the correct time frame.

ANd dont expect anything to actually happen. There are people who got banned from that taurus website who complained that tuarus techs left their gun in a box ona shelf for 7 MONTHS before they even opened it.. no one was sure if it was just laziness or a bad backlog

I sent my Taurus G2C in for repair. Taurus sent a paid shipping label. I sent it in. It was returned to me a week later fully repaired. I’ll pass on your swampland and bridge.

We all have different likes and dislikes, different tastes, on and on. Some like Chevy, some Ford, some Toyota so on, so on.

There are many different reasons to buy a gun. Big game hunting, varmints, small game, personal protection, casual shooting, and collecting to name a few.

To me a Taurus is a great woods gun, hunting gun, fun taking to the range gun etc. Nothing wrong with them at all. They got a fairly bad reputation like early 90's when quality slipped quite a bit. So has many other manufacturers products at different times for different reasons.

I have a Taurus 38 special that my father bought late in life for home protection. It's had a few hundred rounds through it no problem at all.

Is it as purdy as a Colt Python from 1970 or whatever? NOPE Is it as good as a vintage S&W whatever? NOPE Will it have their resale value? NOPE

Will it handle a buttload of rounds a week as well as some other revolvers that are better made? Probably not

But if I wanted a good "fun gun" general shooter or whatever title you prefer I would not hesitate to buy one.

But I'm not going to go out and shoot XXXXXXXXXthousand rounds through it a year either. Or put it in the safe as a collector item. That's not what they are or intended to be.

But to each his own.

Had 2 Taurus PT22 many moons ago. First one came apart at the seams, slide cracked. Wasn't too excited about direct replacement so I contacted Taurus and got a M94 4" as replacement. Might have had to send them $40 or something, I forgot. M94 had a pretty stiff trigger but shoots great to this day.

When #2 PT22 failed later, I inquired with Taurus about having it replaced with something else, they sent a price list. I opted for a M44 8 3/8" blued beast. Cost an additional $150 or something.

M44 shoots great. Have carried it in a bandolier holster with a scope on it during bear hunts. Mostly been fired from the bench, testing loads and trying to ring steel at distance. The only complaint would be that the grip is a bit on the thin side.

So Taurus products have failed on me but their customer service made good.

As far as shooting 44 Mag, I'd rather shoot the 5" 629. Looking to unload a 3" 629PC since 44 Mag snub nose is more than my arthritic hands can handle these days.
