Of the two choices you presented, ACOG.

...or you could try to locate a S&W M&P 15-22. AR15 manipulation & controls, 3.9 cents per round... well it used to be.

Warm up on .22lr to work out the kinks, transition to center-fire, then cool down on the .22lr. Not only do you save a few bucks on ammo (even if you reload), but the 15-22 is also tons of fun.

If I were a volume shooter JaPes I'm with ya. This is all about function vs cost.

You know you want the ACOG. You won't be happy with something else. Spend $400 on the Burris and you won't think that you saved $700. You'll think that you should have spent the $400 on the ACOG.

I wish I were a volume shooter. Rifle ranges are few and far away in my area. I settle for a Bass Pro rifle tube. The 15-22 is my primary AR practice because its allowed on the pistol ranges I frequent.

I'm strongly leaning this way. When I purchased my sport I did it for two reasons. 1) a worst case wheels are falling off the cart rifle. Everything I've done I've had that in mind from sling choice to fixed irons to forestock to ammunition. Function function function. 2) If I HAD to hunt medium sized game I want to be able to take it down with 1 or 2 shots of 62 grain SP ammo.

So when you consider the stronger power the ACOG offers the increased durability the increased dusk shooting capability it sounds like the choice is obvious. Plus you are right. I've been salivating over this ACOG since I bought the rifle! Couple that with well over a grand I've spent on factory ammo alone aaaaand...... Lol

Now....to sell it to my girl. :)

Well I want a scope. I do shoot irons a lot hence the Troy purchase but I still want to scope her.....

There is not the possibility of an optics ban that I am aware of. Get another rifle or magazines when u can find them at reasonable prices. I have a smith and wesson 15-22 and it is my favorite gun because I can afford to shoot it every week.

This exactly! While impulse purchases and the "I finally have enough spending money to get this" are hard to ignore, the albeit somewhat real threat of not being able to purchase certain firearms in the future would have me think money would better be spent on the items you won't be able to buy in the future. You'll make more money and hopefully get more tax returns so you should be able to find optics for the foreseeable future anyway. But it is your money and your decision, this was just my thinking.

I hear you guys and I get it but one.....this ban will not pass the house NOW IMO and more importantly two....this is part of a plan I have had for my rifle from the day I bought it. Yes I'll make more money and get more tax returns but I'm not about to buy a second rifle at some insanely elevated price NOW fearing some ban that IMO can not pass at this point. Judgement call? Sure it is but I also won't let fear drive my decisions.

really nice of you to loan the government money for a year interest free. Change your deductions so you can be as close to $0 at the end of the year as possible and use your money when you earn it, not loan to the thief in charge in DC for free.....

Look guys. This is a simple question. It's a choice a or b. I did not ask for NOR DO I WANT input on how to manage my tax returns. You do not manage my finances or UNDERSTAND why I do what I do. If that's the best input you have to offer KEEP YOUR OPINION TO YOURSELF.

Respectfully.....

ACOG all the way baby, tax money rocks and don't want to be caught with any leftover.

Another gun, additional ammo, 18oz silver, 1/4 & 1/10 gold eagle, long term food storage eh who needs it.....

Guess the point is why ask strangers these types of questions really? As noted above you obviously want the ACOG or would not have lumped it in with the Burris.

Possibly because I have friends here and value their opinions on a choice?? Isn't that why we are here to discuss pros and cons ???

.....if this type discussion is what this forum will offer me I have no reason to stay.

Just giving you something else to think about, no reason to run off if you don't like what you read.

By starting off telling me how I should manage my taxes? Stay on task man. This isn't an H&R Block forum.

....as far as me running off that would only be because other than a select group of posters here lately some choose to ramble on with less than helpful responses.

I'm not trying to be argumentative but I do feel responses should be at least somewhat related to the question. Think I should buy a second rifle instead? Cool. At least it's related to the question at hand. Telling someone how to do their annual taxes? Totally irrelevant and not helping the OP with a decision.

I say if you are set on getting an optic get whatever optic you really want and don't settle for anything less.

I would still suggest the 15-22, even if it is a later purchase. Lots of fun.
