I was at the grocery store today and a lady was buying crawfish. I regularly go out to a real nice restaurant with a client, and we LOVE the crawfish etouffee, so I was wondering about how it tastes homemade. I asked this lady and she perked right up and said she boils it with spicy sausage and "Slap Yo Momma" spices. She went into great detail about how good it was, and after I asked her to adopt me, I bought a couple pounds.:D It was really tasty, but I have a question: Are you only supposed to eat the tail? The rest of it is a head and legs and some nasty gooey stuff, like in a lobster. Looks like there's some meat in there, but is it worth picking it out?
I gotta know. This was pretty good.

I make a crawfish and alfredo pasta with basil, red pepper and black pepper and lots of garlic.
Tastes like heaven but not a first date sorta dinner. :D

only ate it once...tasted like poorman's lobster to me...(I grew up near the Chesepeake Bay w/ lots of crab...ummm yum!)...

I used to go crabbin' w/ a string & a chicken wing...:D w/ crabs & beer you don't need all the spices...

please don't think I'm a snob...I used to love pro-wrestling in the 70's & 80's, and it was nothing more than poorman's theatre back then!

When being used as trot-line bait pull the pincers off or they will pinch the prospective catfish and he may go elsewhere............

For etouffee, just the tails. No need to go pickin' through goup. I know, it seems like a waste when all the weight goes in the garbage, but that's crawfish. At a crawfish boil, you suck the head, but you're pretty much just sucking on spice, at least that's what you should tell yourself. Plenty of beer and you won't care.

Yeah, I understand. I had a bunch for dinner, and now it's catchin' up with me. The Lovely Missus P&R Fan came in, took a whiff and said "I'm NOT sleepin' with you tonight!"
Guess I better have crawfish when she's out of town.:p

The men in my family cook, the women know if they don't eat what we make they have to do their own dishes. :)

I really like 'em,but I have yet to "suck the head". During my former drinkin' days,my capacity was legendary but I could never get drunk enough to try it. Call me a wuss. :p

In Late summer in Sweden, they have a crayfish boil. The boil consists of water, beer, lots of dill, salt,a few grinds of pepper and sugar and is served with a traditional cheese tart, hearty bread and lots of Schnapps.
The Swedes are not keen on sucking the head but that is where all the flavor is and after a few rounds I converted most of the table.

Hey F.T.
Never been drunk enough to suck the head? Ever been drunk enough to eat the worm in a mescal bottle??:D:D
(Anybody?? Which is worse??)

Question??
crawfish, crayfish, crawdad. All the same, just different parts of the country or what? (They are crawdads where I came from.)

Not bad but I'm careful where I eat them when we're out - some places aren't too fastidious about the 'mud' veins and I pass on those . . . .

Do you mean mudbugs? I think they live in swamps and swim around with little potatoes and ears of corn. I've never seen mudbugs without their pals. Maybe they get separated after they catch 'em. You know, maybe the potatoes and ears of corn can swim faster, or they're smarter, and don't get caught in the traps.

Either can't hold a match to eating Balut in Manila. Fertilized duck egg eaten with a shot of salted vinegar and a popular drinking snack.Line up the tiny beaks to keep track of how many you ate.

You're a better man than me. I've eaten some interesting stuff in my day, but I draw the line at Balut although the wife loves it with a dash of Tabasco.
