Tell me Everything BAD about the M&P Subcompacts.

I havn't heard or read anything bad about them, I'm sure there have been a few lemons roll out of the factory as with any other make of gun. I don't think there is anything inherently bad about them as long as you understand the limitations that come with every sub compact gun. Those being less capacity, shorter sight radius, increased recoil, and lower velocity.

Lets think in a positive way and not negative way. The M&P9C are a great firearm. I have had one for quit some time and would take it anywhere for self protection. Get one you will not be sorry.

Sincerely,

I read about LASD

I read something about the full size & compact 9mm M&P pistols. Apparently LASD was experiencing some failures with the pistol. They pulled them from service and removed them from their approved list in late April 2009.

If I can find the reference, I will post the link.

EDIT: Here's a link about it:

Just for info . . . if you'd like to see a list of approved weapons on LASD, here's alink with the list:

Smith & Wesson also recalled all the M&P .40 cal pistol from Atlanta PD's inventory. Apparently there was an issue with the trigger in it. Here's a link to a news story:

I carried a M&P40c for a while. The only thing I didn't like was the cruddy magazine capacity... 10 rounds...

(joking of course. I was very pleased with the 10 round mag) :) 12 in the 9mm I believe.

Well I have had my MP9C for a year and a half now. Been to the range/back side of the mountain with it probably 20 times. Fired a couple of hundred rounds each time so here is the bad news:

Now here is the good news: It will fit just about anyone's hand with the three adjustable back straps. I have used most of the popular rounds out there and not one fail to feed, not one fail to fire. It swallows everything and shoots nice tight groups to the point of aim every time, yes every time. (o; BTW: it is a dream to break down and clean (without pulling the trigger), carries concealed very well and set me back a whopping $329 with three ten round mags. Seriously, if there is a down side to this gun I have yet to encounter it. I bought the De Santis OWB holster from S&W - $64.95 and as expected it fits like the proverbial glove. I know you asked for bad news, sorry I didn't have any but that's my 2 cents worth.

They're evil & addictive. You buy one and you'll want more. Don't do it or you'll be hooked.

The only bad thing in my opinion is the lack of a safety. I guess I am old and set in my way. I don't trust any gun I can't see the hammer. My trigger gets better(easier) all the time and I don't feel at ease carring it with one in the barrel. I know there are thousands out there but I am old and don't know much. I love the 6906's with their hammer and hammer dropping safety. Just my opinion.

The one I tried, I thought the trigger was too light and mushy feeling for SD carry purposes. I suppose thats because I'm used to the heavier NY triggers on my Glocks. Now that they are available with a thumb safety, I might reconsider. Did I mention that they are NOT a Glock. That's all the bad I gots......sorry.

M&P9c

I have owned my 9c since April, I fire 100 rounds per week at least, no problems. I use it for CCW and it is fine. I am so impressed with the accuracy my next gun will be an M&P Pro just for a range gun and maybe competition.

Why would you want to hear about all of the bad when there is SO much GOOD about the M&P lineup? I have a Full Size .40 that has over 12000 rounds downrange and has YET to fail me in ANY way. It just keeps on getting better and better.
A colleague just bought the 9mm Compact and fired over 500 rounds out of the box in a CCW class without and incident of any kind....not even lubed...just shot everything, and kept on going.
What a fabulous firearm in every regard!
Get several while you still can........You will NOT regret it...

I have a full size one but didn't ever care to get one of the smaller M&P's. However I fired one that belongs to a friend at the range a few weeks ago. It's his carry. I was rather impressed with the accuracy. I didn't though particularly care for the overall feel of the gun, might just take some getting used to. Personally I'd rather have my 5906. Just my two cents worth. Good luck.

I have a M&P 40. The only thing is they tend to be a little heavy for CC. Sigs are lighter. Love the gun though, but heavy.

I am going to have to be with DEANODOG on this one AK. I just puchased my first M&P 9mm compact w/ crimson trace about three weeks ago. I dont own a Glack, but I do own a 6906. I have been to the range with it twice, and shot 100 rounds thru her. The thumb safety isnt available in this model, but I wish it was. I will probably install one, just for my protection.

MP c

I have owned all but the 357 MP c. 40c was great, but when the 45c came out,
I let it go and got the 45c. The 9c shoots as well for me as the 9FS. I have used it
in several IDPA stock matches and did well. You will not be unhappy with them IMO
Good luck

I know that a bunch of police departments dropped the 9mm for FTE and stovepipe problems.

40 Sigma sent me a message asking how I got the MP9C for $329. I tried to respond to his message but haven't been able to get my response to him so I'll post it here for one and all.

The $329 was a net price. The gun was $379, NIB with one mag. I got two additional mags and a $50 rebate direct from Smith. The gun was a "Dealer Gun". S&W (and other manufacturers), provide "dealer guns" to gun shops at greatly reduced prices. The gun shop is required to use the gun for display only for 6 months and then they are free to sell them. The day I called them for a quote they told me they had two MP9C dealer guns - one with night sights for $479 and mine for $379. I jumped on it, best deal I'll ever get. This system insures Smith that their dealers will have display models available and allows the gun shop to pass on the savings when the display period is over.

Only thing bad I can think of is that the prices are much higher than they used to be, but that's just the laws of economics working.
