Thats a Spanish copy of the S&W 44 DA. It was made in Eibar, Spain, most likely by Trocaola Aranzabal y Cia. Many of these were commissioned by the British for use in WWI. Seems they needed more handguns and looked to the Spaniards for these. If it never left Spain, there will be no proof marks. The Spaniards did not require proofs till 1923. If it has any British proofs, then is might have seen action in WWI.

Eibar is a very intersting region at that time. It was the Spanish equivalent of Liege, Belgium and was a source of many copies of Colt and S&W handguns. Quality of these guns vary from good to bad. I see them on the auction sites often. Usually sell in the $150 to $350 range.
