Got a new job that has me in Albuquerque for the next few months.
Any locals have suggestions on places to go, things to see and do, good pawn shops, good gun stores, shooting ranges etc.
Been here for a week, working outside and am LOVING it so far.

The only name I can remember is The Shooter's Den up in the NE section about a block above Menaul. Guy named Derrick owns it. Was good people back in 1992. There also were about a dozen good gun/pawn shops around town. Try to stay out of the SE and SW (esp the SW). Those aer the rougher sections of ABQ. You can go out to Nine Mile Hill west of town on 20 to shoot. It's a public range operated by the city I believe. Pretty nice place and was well run back in the early 90s.

I spent 4 years in ABQ one day. Loved it. Army made me move to Alaska after that......darn it!

Was out there a couple of years back and knocked around some. The Man's Hat Shop in downtown on Route 66 is great and the guys know about more than just hats. Richardson's Gun store is on R66 between downtown and the Fairgrounds. Friendly place. The Atomic Museum is a must see

Ron Peterson's guns on Central is the place to go. Lots of guns, nice folks, and they don't run a museum - most of the guns are priced to sell.

I'm about 3 hours away, but I wind up in ABQ a few times a month and never miss checking in at Peterson's.

Little Anita's at University and Menaul has great New Mexican cuisine. There are many other good places to eat, but that one happens to be a block from the truck stop. ;)

I haven't been to Old Town in 15+ years, but you should check that out, too.

+1 to Ron Petersons Guns on Central Ave, he's good people. Saw him recently as a guest appraiser on a Antiques Roadshow sequence from a few years ago.
Haven't been in his shop in years but, hey, good people don't change.

Ron Peterson's is unbelievable. I've dropped a whole lot of money there over the years. He's a completely honest gun dealer, and they are hard to find.

Good gun show coming up on March 6-7, about 500 tables; at the fairgrounds. Their summer show is smaller but the fall show (same weekend as the balloon festival) is good too. Lots of nice people there, and usually interesting stuff.

Second Anita's restaurant. Garduno's is good too (several locations). The Cooperage is a good steakhouse. And there's a good Greek restaurant (I forget the name) on Eubank.

Drop me an email with your cell phone number if you want to shoot the breeze - I've lived here in ABQ since '88 and there's just too much to put in a post. :)

Ron Peterson's is the best gun store in the state, especially for used guns. Nice place to hang out and look over the goodies. It's just up Central a bit from a very good Italian restaurant, Scalo's. Two good places to spend some money.

We shoot IDPA the third Sunday of every month at Del Norte Gun Club, just google it for directions. It's a ways out of town in Sandoval County.

Go down to Old Town on the weekend and buy some silver and turquoise for your sweetie; maybe a silver belt buckle for you. Good times and lots of fine Mexican food.

Erich, MANY thanks for the call... looking forward to meeting you and talking face to face.
Thanks to everyone for the input, I like to make wherever I am staying as much of a "home" as I can.
Hangouts and local food places go a long way towards that.

Great talking to you, Jim - looking forward to meeting you face-to-face, grabbing breakfast and maybe hitting the range someday. :)

Already crossed the border a few times in the past. ;)
Today drove from Albuquerque to Alamogordo, then to Roswell... and back to Albuquerque... while hitting 3 job sites.
long day, lots of cool scenery.
I will be taking the wife that route when she flys out here in April.
