Awful news, sad day in New Orleans.

I was wondering why they called terrorism so quickly when it seems they normally delay the acknowledgment of such things. Then I saw a familiar looking black flag flying on a flag pole on the back bumper of that truck.… Be safe out there.

Latest news report says the truck had Texas plates and had been recorded crossing the border at Eagle Pass, Texas from Mexico 2 days earlier.

Too many crazies out there with too many ways to impart their craziness on the masses....they're ticking bombs that go off with no warning..

As of July 1, 2024, gun possession is prohibited in a 1,000-foot radius of the New Orleans Police Department's French Quarter station, which was designated as a vocational-technical school. This includes a stretch of Bourbon Street.

Guns banned include bars and restaurants serving alcohol, parades, and permitted demonstrations. Yes any parade that has a 'permit'... say how would one know that?

Does not matter if you have a CCW... guns banned...

So a bystander, that the truck did not hit, could not fire into the cab and kill the nutjob... least they be charged themselves!!

Gotta wait for the cops...

In the account I read, the mayor called it terrorism, the FBI ASAC said it wasn't. Then she got a call from DC and now they are investigating it as such. Like "hate crime" terrorism is a question of motive which, in the absence of flag waving or slogan shouting at the time of the crime is usually developed as the investigation proceeds. Adopting these theories too soon can misdirect the inquiries, but they make qfor more exciting headlines and fuel Internet speculation. So I'll keep my half-baked theories to myself.

Guess i would be a test case then.

Be damned if i just let someone start shooting up a crowd if I had the opportunity and means to stop it.

I was reading where the barrier system to prevent such an event were taken down for repair and were not back in place. Considering that a major bowl game is being played there, and it was New Years Eve, maybe someone would have been smart enough to say "Hey! We should block the area with jersey barriers or big dump and garbage trucks".

I guess no one did.

Straight up terror, looks like.

The suspect in the deadly Bourbon Street attack has been identified.

According to NOLA.com, law enforcement sources say 42-year-old Shamsud Din Jabbar was the suspect believed to have sped down Bourbon Street in a pickup truck early Wednesday. At least Ten people were killed in the attack and more than 35 were injured. The source told NOLA.com Din jabbar was carrying an ISIS flag in the truck. ABC News previously reported law enforcement was looking into the suspect’s potential ties to ISIS.

I've lost track. Is this supposed to be a "False Flag" or a "Black Swan" event? My stupid conspiracy theory spread sheet is out of date.

The reality seems bad enough without making up silly theories.

As always, we won't have a good idea of what actually happened until at least 48 hours have passed.

FWIW, the Boston office of the FBI is only about a mile or so from the site of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing. From previous experience working at that event, the FBI had Special Agents on scene throughout the day, not just after the explosion.

Truck was a rental listed on a site like Air BnB for cars.

Not sure they have confirmed who was driving truck at border or if it was a different rental.

The suspect was a US citizen, born and raised in the US.

You're falling behind. The truck is owned by a guy out of Houston who rents it via the Truro app. The terrorist rented the truck and used it. The owner is talking to the FBI, but it doesn't look like he had anything to do with the attack.

The truck has apparently crossed back and forth a few times over the past few months.

The "48 hour" rule is in full effect.

Last news reports said the pickup (Texas plates) crossed the border at Eagle Pass, TX two days ago. That means DHS and the FBI already know if this guy was driving it.

From New Jersy:

NEW ORLEANS, LA — The New Orleans Police Department has identified Samshud Din Jabbar, 42, as the suspect who drove a truck involved in an incident under investigation. Police say Jabbar was armed with a Glock pistol and a stolen .308 rifle from New Jersey that was equipped with either optics or a suppressor.

Authorities have also stated that four to five additional suspects are believed to have been involved in the incident, though their identities have not yet been released.

The investigation is ongoing, and police are working to track down the additional suspects and determine the circumstances surrounding the case.

Separately:

The suspect in the devastating New Orleans car-ramming attack has been identified as 42-year-old Shamsud Din Jabbar, a U.S. citizen born and raised in Texas. Jabbar, who served in the U.S. Army, was found with an ISIS flag in his possession, raising significant concerns about potential extremist motives.

If anyone has been to Nawlins during an event, they would know that there is a massive police mobilization for these.

The entire city was already on high threat alert status for the Sugar Bowl.

A Lone Wolf attack, with little to no online or comms presence, is almost impossible to prevent if the attacker is willing to die.

Prayers for quick recovery of the two officers shot, and to the families of the deceased and injured.
