The Department of Defense is going to prepare and issue new interim, Department-wide policy on privately owned weapons policy this summer.

I presume that these new policies will impose new restrictions on uniformed personnel, especially those living off post/base.

I was surprised to read that the Under Secretary for Intelligence is tasked with preparing the interim guidance.

Recommendation 3.8 deals with privately owned weapons, and you can find a copy at this location: http://www.defense.gov/news/d20100415fthood1.pdf

Whatever they finally arrive at, you can be sure that it will be politically correct, and make no sense whatsoever.

So what did you expect-that they would acknowledge they had a lousy officer who should have been kicked out, but was protected by his religion and ethnicity? How about we make military bases 100% gun free zones for everybody-INCLUDING the Secret Service?

Wonder what will happen to GI Rod and Gun Clubs? We have a wonderful one here at Ft Bliss, almsot 1/2 mile of ranges; rifle pistol and shotgun.

Were I to guess, I'd imagine some sort of registration and perhaps a licensing scheme administered by NCIS, CID, etc. Possibly a provision denying CCW rights. Probable banning of privately owned weapons in family housing (if that's even permitted anymore). This is probably not a DOD reg that will be written by military - this will be done by political appointee staffers to SecDef.

GI's should carry their issued weapons on US bases just like they do on bases in the war zone.
There is a terrorist threat on both.
If there were 50 armed GI's near the Muslim terrorist on Ft. Hood he wouldn't be sitting around costing us taxpayer $$$ while awaiting trial.
