Just got back from Cancun and had an awesome time, but now the kids are mad they didn't get to go, and they are wanting a vacation at the beach. I probably can't afford to fly the whole crew somewhere, so I was thinking about driving to a TX beach in early or mid June. It's not too long of a trip from Oklahoma City, and we will probably drive straight through and spend 4-5 days, and I was wondering what was the best place to take a family. Every spring break in college I went to Padre Island and had more fun than I could ever imagine, and I wouldn't mind going back there but I don't know if that's the best family atmosphere. We will be spending a lot of time on the beach and maybe do a short fishing trip, some sight seeing, and some Para-sailing. Anyone have some suggestions?

Spring Break is over with so sanity has returned to Texas Beaches. Padre Island, or Port Aransas, are both good bets for family vacation. Good hotels, eating, fishing, beach surf etc at both locations. Come on down and enjoy the Texas Rivera.

You will burn almost two days in driving... It is almost 800 miles from where your at. Port Aransas is nice too and only 650 miles!

Go East Young Man

If the oil slick stays away, go east to the FL panhandle. Destin, Ft Walton Beach. PC have fantastic beaches. If they are oil slicked goo when you get there, then the kids have the opportunity to experience an ecological disaster first hand and can then enhance their social conciseness by helping to save all the oil soaked critters and clean up the beaches.

Galveston...Historical sites, Schlitterban(water park) for the kids.
Nice beaches..good fishing and great resturants.
Check out "Homeaway.com"...it shows my place and many others.

Tell the kids that when they grow up get married and start earning their own money, then they can go to the beach. Untill then go They ought to be cutting the grass and studying.

South Padre Island has some of the nicest beach areas in TX. Lots to do and plenty of hotels and restaurants. It is a long drive however to south TX
I'm not a big fan of Galveston but the kids seem to have a great time there.

Farmer,
My son who lives just east of Hydro and his family will be joining my wife and the rest of our klan at South Padre Island in July. Not that bad of a drive for him and his crew.
Great place to spend a week in the sun, with associated fun.
