Both of us were due to renew out Drivers license later this year anyway so we decided to go ahead and do it on line now as "THEY" recommend. Didn't know what to expect now with all this commotion going on but we decided to try to do it on line. We both got on line and submitted our applications on 3/18. We both got our new licenses today, 3/28.

I think a 10 day turn-around is pretty good especially when dealing with the govt. If you are thinking about doing this you might want to go ahead and do it now. Who knows what everything is going to be like later on.

Good luck to you all.

In NY the licenses last 9 years. They want you to come in and have a new picture taken.

My grandkids got pictures as soon as they were born for their US passports. Your first passport is good for 5 years, then they second when they are 5 or 6, and those are good for 10 years. My Granddaughter is 13, she looks so much different than at 6! (their German passports get updated more often)

I need to get my current TX DL changed to get one with the REAL ID symbol on it that allows you to board a commercial airplane. That can't be done by mail. You must personally go the the drivers licence office with two types of ID (birth cert, carry permit, passport, naturalization papers, military ID, etc.) to prove you are who you say you are. Just saw that the TSA has delayed that requirement for a full year, until October 2021 from October 2020, so I guess I don't need to hurry. I understand that the main TX DL center (located not too far from me) is really jammed up at present, exactly where I don't want to be until the COVID-19 thing has passed. Will be happy to wait until 2021.

WE have both renewed our DLs in the past year, and even jumped through the hoops to get "Real ID" complaint. Now they have pushed that back.

Both of our vehicles have come due recently, and both needed emissions. I did each of them as soon as I received my renewal notice, and the new cards and stickers came in just a couple of days. Sure glad that I didn't wait, since I guess things are pretty slow at the MVD right now.

That's not necessary. According to DPS all Texas drivers licenses meet the real ID requirements with or without the star. I just renewed mine online - no documents were needed. The old one had no star. The new one does. If you are eligible (every other renewal unless you're 79 or older) you can renew online without any trouble. Those 79 and older must renew in person only.

The new licenses sure are colorful, though. Lots of designs and embossing and holograms involved.

Like TX-Dennis, I renewed here in Texas via on-line services and received the coveted gold star on the new one without doing anything but paying the fee. It may be on account of having a Texas License to Carry.

That's what I thought, too. I had a non-REAL ID license, so I assembled all my paperwork, and prepared to go to a license center and wait. Then I decided to try to renew online, just for the heck of it. Amazingly, it worked! I got my REAL ID license, complete with gold star, within two weeks. So try it online, you might be pleasantly surprised.

In Arizona our DL doesn’t expire until You turn 65, a couple of years ago I received a letter my picture was 12 years old. I has to get a new picture, now we need to get the upgraded IDs....

I got my renewal in the mail the first part of the month and then they closed all the drivers license offices. I have to have an eye exam this time and I'm going to get the real ID done also. They are going to give you 30 days to renew after the offices reopen even if yours has expired.

I am hearing a lot of Texans having a lot of red tape and hassle to go through. But evidently. On line is THE WAY to do it. If you have a valid Texas DL and want to renew it I would go on line. I don't know why, maybe with all the commotion going on these days they just decided to simplify things. That doesn't sound like something that could happen but who knows.

I don't know when or where you got that but it is no longer the case. Go on line. No hassle or red tape. Easy peasy. Got my new DL in 10 days.
