Yes... We've been following this in the "Texas Next" thread for a while. :)

No, those that prefer having the LTC can keep renewing those. They do have their perks (like no NICS checks when perchasing) and will retain those perks. Those with a LTC have proven that they are Law Abiding Citizens.

Constitutional Carry only means that one does not NEED a LTC in order to carry for self defense... and that one is legally eligible to own a handgun.

CHL (Concealed Carry Only) was a 'Baby Step' to LTC (Open OR Concealed Carry), which was another step (and a compromise a few Years back) towards Constitutional Carry.

Gang bangers will start carrying guns too.. LEOs will not be able to arrest the ones with out felonies only to have the courts let them out in 24 hours anyway or drop the charges.

Won't that make it 23 states that allow concealed carry without a permit?

Ummm....I either missed the sarcasm emoji, or you missed the point that gang bangers carried without a permit already....?

I think when the U.S. Supreme Court takes up "New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Corlett, No. 20-843" this fall all 50 states will have open carry!!!!

I am a "born" TEXAN and my wife of 57 years, demanded we sell our property, and move back to Bishop,CA where our grown children live.
WE did immediately.
Here in Bishop now.
I was the USFS armed Ranger here for a 33 years.
Know the area very well.
Lots of Republicans here. Great hunting and fishing. Lots of tourists drive thru on their way to Mammoth Lakes condos and homes.
Elevation is 4500 ft here, so snow and winter weather is predictable.
Our grown children work and reside here.
My Wife, recently deceased, loved this area, as our 2 children were born here.

The Fire Depts will need to stock up on Speedy Dry to soak up all the blood about to be running in the streets.
A well-stocked cruiser first aid kit should always have a big bunch of wrapped maxi-pads for serious trauma - they're sterile and easily handled.

We always just throw dirt over wet blood on highways or sidewalks if there's no FD to hose it away. It puts issued shovels to use.

No, they won't.

First, the case is about "may issue" rules that are effectively "no issue" rules. The SCOTUS has taken up the case only to decide, "whether the State's denial of petitioners' applications for concealed-carry licenses for self-defense violated the Second Amendment".

Second, if the SCOTUS rules against the NY permitting process, it will rule as narrowly as possible.

There is no possibility it will be decided so broadly as to require that open carry be allowed in all 50 states.

Man even Texans can get stuff right sometimes! :D

Good work to everybody who lobbied their representatives to make it happen.

I want to be very careful how I say this. I am a retied LEO and have been a gun guy all my life...with that said, this law is an absolute disaster for law enforcement . We will not be able to stop and check suspicious people without probable cause. Given the level of hate generated towards LEO today, profiling complaints will skyrocket and officers will place their jobs and even freedom in jeopardy. Now you will be worried about the people in front of you and the administration, which virtually allows special interest to run most major departments , and you will be wrong until you can prove yourselves right.

I pray for the safety of our active duty first responders and will further state there is not enough money in Texas to convince to put the uniform on again.

I like most LEOS. Heck I am meeting the guy who was the chief or police in my home town for lunch Monday when I am there. I was on come to my house for supper friendly with the just retired sheriff.

But, you should never have been able to stop and check people without probable cause in the first place. Probable cause is there for a reason. Just because some guy looks suspicious is no reason to stop and search. Why would you just up and stop someone for no cause??? Explain the law on looking suspicious??? How have judges and defense attorneys responded to you when you said I stopped him because he looked suspicious or do you HONESTLY say that in court??

I am driving down the street. Would you stop me and check it I had a drivers license or warrants with no cause???

I am walking down the street and you think I may have a concealed gun, would you stop to see if I had a permit with no cause??

What is really different except no constitutional right to possess a car??

If I look at you and move my eyes away quickly, I am driving the speed limit, I have a clunker in the "good'' neighborhood, my older brother went to prison, are those suspicious????

In any case with no probable cause a judge will release the person in short order. Your Honor, he looked suspicious ain't going to cut it no more permits or not. Anything obtained during such search would be fruit of the poison tree and tossed as evidence. Not revolving door justice, but poor police work. Sorry.

Other states have been doing it without a problem for some time. Vermont for decades. I only needed a permit for carry in town on my person in Montana forever. I could legally have as many guns as I wanted wherever and how ever in my car with no permit for as long as I can remember and our law enforcement had no problems. Arizona has had permit less carry for 10 years no with no disaster like you describe. Why??

Profiling was never the best way to go. Just cause some one is driving a brand new Mercedes late at night in a bad neighborhood does not mean it was stolen. Yes it might be. But what if it was you driving home from work?

Sometimes my hair is a mess and my clothes are dirty, if I drive slow around a few blocks looking for a business, is that a reason to think I don't have a permit or my Lincoln is stolen???? If you did stop me I would call the city manager and complain. The heck with the chief.

A whole bunch of suspicion is based on profiling. While I don't think if a crime was committed by a tall young man, the cops should have to check out 60 year old fat women too, stopping every "suspicious looking" 16-30 year old tall man and patting them down, cuffing some while waiting for information ain't right either. A lot of the reason for some people being up in arms lately is because of having been profiled at one time or the other themselves. Not condoning the looting burning or destruction. But, having been stopped and cuffed for something I never did does mean I can understand some of the outrage. The apology when I was released from the cuffs did not help one little bit. News flash, cops get nervous around very muscular 20-30 some year old 6'3" 240# aggressive guys. Don't mean we committed a crime or started a fight or belong in cuffs.

Good, you shouldn't be stopping people without actual probable cause.

Well if you retired after 1968 then you should know that Terry vs. Ohio holds that a LEO only needs a "reasonable suspension" to stop and frisk someone.

"Reasonable Suspicion" has been ruled by the Supreme Court to be a lower legal requirement than "Probable Cause". Heck a Officer can always stop and frisk someone and make up the reason afterwords.
