There is a story in today's newspaper that a resolution is coming up before the Texas state legislature to designate an official state gun - the Colt Walker revolver. While that's not too surprising given the connection between Texas and the Colt Walker, what was is that Texas is not the first state to designate a state gun. Eight other states already have.

John M. Browning was a Utah boy so naturally our state gun is the Colt 1911.

The designer was an easy choice but there was along list to pick from. I'd bet that both the Auto-5 and Model 1894 Winchester have been used more by civilians. I might have picked the 1895 Winchester.

I will not hold my breath waiting for Washington to pick a state gun. If they ever did it most likely would be an ingot of steel left from melting down police buy backs.

Had to look up Indiana,
It's the Grouseland Rifle.
It's in the Grouseland house in Vincennes.
That's then Gov later Prez William Henry Harrison's house.
My wife is from there, I have toured Grouseland.
Embarrassed to say I don't remember that gun!
