I just submitted my online renewal for Texas CHL. They have the process very streamlines. Only place I was unsure I went to check the payment amounts, $35 for Senior Citizen, $25 for Veteran and other amounts for different categories. I optioned
to do the Senior Citizen option since it was only $10 more and
the veteran option might have required me to dig out my DD214 from the safety deposit box. I called just to check and make sure nothing required for me to mail, and confirmed that
had I selected the veteran option the DD214 would have to be included. I am very pleased at the improvements made by the
State of Texas and streamlining the renewal process. Instead
of waiting for a return call they return phone calls in an estimated time.:D

I did mine a few months back. I received the new license in about three weeks. Like you I opted for the old coot's discount because I haven't seen my 214 in years. Seven dollars a year seems like a bargain to me.

The system works very well.

Another advantage of going the Veteran route is they mark the CHL prominently with "Veteran" in red near the top. This can be handy as a Veteran's ID at places that offer Veteran's discounts, etc. FYI you can now get your Texas driver's license with Veteran's status too.
